pitting on primary clutch

i have recently noticed some slight pitting on the stationary sheave. 2013 800 with 275 miles. Anyone else seen this or got an idea what could be causing it? I was thinking maybe heat?

^ I would go with that and/or if your sled has ever been subject to road grime. Salt or that new liquid stuff they put on the highway pits bare aluminum pretty much instantly. Only takes once and not very much of it. Either way should t be a big deal.

If you carry your sled on an open trailer this would be my guess too.

zero corrosion

Sled rides on a deck with cover or enclosed trailer only.....never seen the mag chloride. If there was anything that would be in question it would be one day of slipping the belt at low speed (not excessevly).

That spray stuff they put on the highways sucks. Watching that mist go all around my sled pisses me off. I have noticed that as well on my clutch but that was before i ever hauled it. Gotta put it on open trailer next week for first time.... Thinking I spray the undercarriage with wd-40 before we head out....

Etching

If you roll your sled and get gasoline on your clutch, then slam the belt several times-that will do it. Specially if it's boosted.
