Been watching this.... Quite interesting. The captain of the US ship is still held hostage by the pirates. US Military has a vessel 2-3 hours away, why can't they jump in a chopper and go take care of it??? Apprantely the pirates are related to Al Quada somehow. This is reportedly the first time in 200 years that a ship flying under an American Flag, manned by Americans, has been under Pirate attack. Tell me that the world doesn't have a different view of the strength of the US now and what we are willing to do to protect our own.
Haven't heard any mention whether or not the Americans are armed, I suppose there's a law against that though???

Jeezust!! The crew released the hostage in exchange for the Captain, but the pirates didn't release the captain. Probably gonna try & recapture the ship

.I say we carpet bomb the villages they are from,sink the raft and kill all the ones in the raft also.The captian is prob not going to live through it,we've allready dealt with the Somali's and they know our govt.is a bunch of liberal dip ----'s that will not do anything to them. If that does not get the point accross then make em glow and shoot em in the dark.. (incase no one can tell I don't like Somali's)

Al Quada is having a harder time finding funding. People and nations are getting tired of funding them so they are looking at other avenues to get cash.
As for the ship being 3 hours away. That is a LONG helicopter flight and the ship in question may not have a chopper on board. As long as the crew has control of where the ship is going they are fine. The navy will rendezvous with em and take care of it.
And yes, I will bet a years pay there were weapons on that ship. Once they are in international waters they could carry machineguns on board.

The owner of the ship said there are no weapons on the ship but there was security personel on board and they have "barbed wire, high pressure hoses, etc" to deter boarding. He said they didn't want an incident on the sea to turn into an "old west shootout".

the carrier will have it (chopper) but fuel cap is at the max,he would have very little time in air over conflict.They will not release it unless necessary to repel re-boarding then it would be a crap shoot.The problem with shooting boarders with aircraft is the weapon would pierce the vessel also.

I don't know of ANY navy ship (other than a tug or a barge) that can't do at 25knots and it they are war ships they can do ....................... better than that.
It definetly does shock me that they had no weapons. Looks like an ol west shoot out would have solved the problem to begin with.

BO was just directly asked three times by reporters what he would do about the pirate situation and he refused to answer. He said he had to keep focused on the housing crisis. Like I said, chicken sh#t sob. The wife has been wanting to take a trip over there somewhere but doesn't sound like a good idea in case of trouble with no one in the White House to back you up. At least old GW wasn't inclined to be cowardly.
Actually I read that American, British and French military ships have all agreed to act if any of the ships being hijacked are American, British or French. Let's hope that is the case. These pussies hijack ships all while military ships watch.
I was very surprised to find out that this ship was not armed as well. I would have turret guns mounted and enforce a security detail. I'd bring Chuck Norris.
