pipe plug in coolent line

Hay I tore down my blown 800 polaris and found a pipe plug in the lower coolant line on the head. Who knows why some one would do this and if this could be why I broke both pistons between ring groves at the 1 oclock.

First, I'd post this in the poo section as there's a lot more guys in the know there. Also has there been any other mods to the coolant system? custom U-cooler, Different coolant bottle, removal of ont front exchanger in the tunnel.

Is the plug in the head, or in a hose? Is the temp sensor installed? or is this plug where the temp sensor was? '02 800 poo's ran hot in marginal snow conditions and would go into "limp mode" until allowed to cool. If it is a line that is plugged, I don't know - the coolant has to circulate, so if a line is blocked, it makes it hard to do that.

yes it was in the bypass hose under the thermostat housing. They said that it could been there for it to worm faster but it also could cause it to over heat on worm days. But sled never went into limp mode but looks like it got the top end over heated on a worm day and did it in.
