People that do zero upkeep on their houses - anyone else noticed this?

I was on a walk the other evening, and I noticed that as I was walking by dozens of houses, that most of the houses and yards were in disrepair.

I mean, things like:

A homeowner cut down a tree a year ago, and it is still in his front yard

3-4 cars that obviously do not run, on the side of the house looking like crap

Siding on a house that has not seen a fresh coat of paint since Ronald Reagan was in office

Overgrown bushes to the point where you cannot see in the front windows or barely get out the front door

Wood decks that are all rotten and the railings falling off

The redneck that has three grills lined up against the thrid garage door

Leaves in the yard from the fall of 98'

Crab grass that could swallow up a small child

Lawn high enough to conceal a RV parked nearby

And on and on

I wonder why these people let their house go to crap?

Did their dad not teach them how to fix stuff?
Are they just plain lazy?
Are they financially strapped?

It is frustrating to me that people just seem to think this is just fine. Well it's not to me! House values are low enough already.......

Who has neighbors that have front yards that look like the set of Sanford and Son?

Start a homeowner association

While having the reputation of being snooty, some homeowners associations can be good. I live next to renters, and at one point a giraffe could have hidden in their front yard. Made a call to homeowners association, problem solved. A well kept house and yard helps everyone with property values, so it is a win win for all involved. Hopefully the majority of houses aren't like the ones you described. It sucks the lazy bastards ruin it for everyone else.

You nailed with Lazy Bastard!!

Actually, in our development all of the houses are new enough where there are not yet any maintenance issues...However there will be, as some of the people cannot seem to trim bushes, or keep their lawn halfway good......

Its "those other people" (Effin "A" that sounds snooty)..........

aeb:

I normally would support a homeowners association, but I am afraid they would make me park my trailer somewhere else, and not let my kid ride his sled around the yard..........:D

Howz that for two faced!! LOL

know what you mean

I too have been guilty of that hypocrisy. I am building a cedar screen wall for my trailer as we speak. I also try and load my sleds in the evening, so I don't p!ss off the neighbors in the early morning hours. Although kind of tough to put the trailer and sleds in storage with 6 inches of new snow on the ground....

my personal favorite is when the house 2 doors down is rented by 4 college students........loud noise, horrible odor, dangerous driving, major trash........what a mess.

dont judge all college students. i lived in some pretty ****ty houses but we always worked to keep the yard looking as good as we could.

had a older couple for neighbors the one year that we shared a driveway with (the area between the 2 houses was all paved leading to the garages behind the house) and they *****ed us all year because they said our pickups were cracking the pavement...
