What is the difference between the 3 and the 5? Also has anyone purchased a Power Commander thru SLP? Does SLP build there own maps, Struthers etc.? Are all of these maps ran at altitude to make certain they perform? I run between 5000 and 11000 feet and want the best bang for the buck. Thanks in advance for all the great information.

pc-3 or pc-5

The pc-5 will accept the new autotune and the pc3 does not the pc5 can store 2 maps and has the ability to change fuel at 100 rpm intervals also . If you are going to run someone elses map none of this is important. the pc3 will work just fine but if buying new I would get the pc5 if they are the same money because the pc5 is the newest. If you have EGTS you can build your own map. SLP has maps for both pc3 and pc5 at 3000 feet and above and will have maps sometime next week for low elevation. It is very simple to use. Also on the performance and modified section Scarter will help you as he works for dynojet or call SLP and they will get you set up.Yes SLP builds their own maps and does this at high altitude.

I would get the PCV (and I do have it) just for the ability to switch between two maps on the fly. I bought mine through Jim at DynoTechResearch because he does a lot of testing and isn't do so for a particular product. Nothing against SLP, but their testing is mostly for their products. I don't want to run their exhaust, so I went with Jim.

I am running a SLP single so would it be best to go with SLP? Does Dynotech do any testing with the SLP pipe? Any info is greatly appreciated.

towngrunt, I am running the slp also and looking at controllers. Same situation am torn between the slp and dynotech. I ride between 8-10,000. Have read some really good info on the dynotech, but my local dealer said he could make me a great deal on slp, not sure how great.
But know I want to get one of them ordered this week so am checking out everything can find on both of them.

All info is app.

One more stupid question. From what I am hearing are there different maps available? Thank heavens for much more intelligent people out there than me.

Anyone can make a map for the pciii or the pcv. Jim at dynotech has done alot of work and offers them to the guys that buy from him. The slp one is just another map made by someone else at slp. They both work fine take care of any of the midrange issues and burning down problems that the Polaris map created. Jim also has maps for stock piped sleds.

Which one is the Better Tuner?

Is the PC5 the best tuner since it is the newest updated release? I am looking for one for my stock 09 D8 RMK with the updates as off last week. I also understand Dynotech Jim has the most current maps and tuning? It lloks like he charges to become a member or to have access? I am concerned about riding my sled now with out a tuner os some sort due to all of the lean conditions so I will order one some where come tomorrow.

I had a chance to really run my 09 D8 155 this weekend with the PCV/Stoutners tune, and the sled ran awesome! When I had traction, the sled would stand on its snow flap. Never did that last year! :) Only down fall I had with the tune, is I got about 6.5 mpg.

As someone else stated, DynoJet makes the Power Commander (PCIII and PCV) and DynoTechResearch is headed by Jim and does some pretty cool tested that leads them to make maps for the PCIII and PCV.

You don't need a map from Jim or SLP. You could go into your laptop and make the changes if you knew what to change or had someone share their map with you. I don't know what Jim or SLP thinks of us sharing their maps, but I think it would be fine because I bought the PCV from Jim and also paid for a subscription to his site. It's pretty simple, you just choose to add or subtract fuel at certain throttle positions at different RPM's. The trick is knowing what to lean out w/o burning down! ;)

I'm not intelligent enough to make my own maps, I want one already made that will make my sled run to its best ability.

Pcv

got mine from my dealer for a late xmas gift to me and it came with SLP's map installed just plug n play sled ran much better than before

Clutch Weight Changes needed after PC5

I understand that you have to increase your clutch weights 2-4 grams after you install the power commander 5 with Jim's map for a stock 800 D8 RMK with updates done. I have just ordered one and wanted to see if any one could offer up a reference point for 6000 to 9000 feet.

I would like to hear if anyone has changed the style weights used besides the factory polaris weights and how the others comapare? Thanks.

No, I am running 10-68's here in MN and I am pulling 8150 rpms with the PCV.

I didn't change my clutching at all. I'm seeing 8200 every time I ride.
