PayPal

looking to buy a NOS kit of ebay and the seller agreed to end the bidding early for me. We agreed on a price with shipping and all. He said to send him $420 through paypal, and then he would ship it. Is this how paypal works? Can he claim the $420 I am sending him without shipping the NOS kit, leaving me SOL with $420 in the hole and nothing to show for it.
Thanks,
Nolan

Yes, he could but if you do not get the product, paypal can deduct from his account and pay you back

Keep ALL e-mail correspondence with the seller. The only issue I ever had on eBay / PayPal was on a Nascar diecast pre-buy and I got my money back almost a year after. Got the money back from my credit card company I used via PayPal, as their policy was I had contact with the seller within the last 90 days. This guy was a complete doosh though.

I seen his on there. I was watchin his to see what I should sell mine for. I have a fresh from BD box and same system if that deal falls through.

BTW, That is how it works and he has to show a shipping reciept to your zip code to protect himself so its the safest way to do it. Or tell him you will smoke the bid to whatever on ebay and as soon as he sees you as high bid he can end it. With that you will have a bit more protection through Ebay.

did you place a bid on it? then did he just end it to sell to the highest bidder? if not it may be that the transaction was considered a sale out side of eBay and may be in violation of ebay's policy. would make it a little tuffer to reclaim the funds if the kit doesn't show up. just a thought
