PAYPAL FEES

Call me crazy, but I don't understand why people sell **** on the internet and don't expect that people are going to pay them via Paypal. I made a deal with someone on this forum for something they were offering for sale, and after I asked him what his Paypal address was, he asked me to cover the fees, or send him a cashiers check. What is a cashiers check (sarcasm...)? I'm sure as hell not going to send someone a cashiers check that I don't know. Unless you specify otherwise, there is a reasonable expectation that you're going to have to pay the fees for some sort of internet payment transaction. It's a serious pet peeve of mine when you agree on a price with someone, and at the last second, the seller tacks on Paypal fees. There is a reason Paypal charges it to the seller. It's called the cost of doing business. PLEASE, PLEASE, sellers if you're going to sell something on the internet, include the cost of Paypal fees in your negotiations. Buyers aren't stupid. Unless they're picking up said item from you, or you specify otherwise, you should ASSUME that you're going to have to give a cut to Paypal, or some other third party.

Rant over.

Not saying this is how your situation went, but I've sold a lot of parts on here and this is my take from what I've seen a lot...

After all the low balling people do to sellers on their parts, the seller usually takes a lot less than what they were originally asking. Top that off, you give them a price "shipped" and they somehow lose track or don't care you the seller are paying an extra $15-30 to ship that item. Tack on paypal fees on top of that and you the seller are not as happy with the sale as the buyer usually is. This is why I ask people to send me paypal payments "as a gift" so I don't get charged paypal fees. If my reputation on this forum wasn't like it is then it might be harder to get people to trust me and buy an item without the paypal fees attached.

I have and will never ask after a set amount is agreed upon though for the buyer to pay the paypal fees. If the seller did not think ahead of time with that in mind, then it's his problem and he should pay the fees and learn a life lesson in the process. So I understand your frustrations...

You have it right.

But I do think that the sellers don't like to add details like " you will have To pay the PayPal fee" or "you pay shipping" fearing that it will scare away potential buyers. Then they spring that on you after you agree upon a selling price. Both parties need to be honest from the beginning and it would go a lot smoother. This forum is ridiculous for low ballers! Doesn't matter what your selling, the buyer has seen the same thing for sale from someone else for way less!! And thinks he needs and deserves the same price.

I do agree about the lowballing, and admit I have been guilty of that as well. Having said that, all the seller has todo is say no, or counter offer. But they SHOULD always include Paypal fees in consideration of the final sales price in my opinion. If someone offers to gift the payment, then that is just a bonus. Like both of you have acknowledged, it's just frustrating to agree on a price, and then get hit with fees on top.

i don't think the seller should expect you to be paying with paypal, if it upsets you so much YOU should bring this up before a final price is agreed upon. you don't want to send a cashiers check and use paypal. why because you want to be protected, and the seller should have to pay for this?

i sell stuff over the net sometimes and usually have to eat a few bucks here and there for shipping, i don't see anyone wanting to reimburse me for that.

There is absolutely no logic to what you just said. None. If you're selling something, don't you generally want people to feel secure in their investment??? And you expect the buyer to pay the fee for the convenience that that instant payment method provides them? BOTH parties benefit. Do you know how many sellers are scammed with cashiers checks? How do you expect people to pay you when you sell something on the internet? Cash, hand delivered via Horse drawn carriage? Western Union is old news. Sorry to disappoint you.

By the way, retailers don't charge extra at checkout only for people who use Credit Cards to cover fees for purchases. It's already factored into the cost of the product. There is a reasonable expectation that someone is going to pay with a credit or debit card. I sell used items online with the same assumption. It's the honest way of conducting business.
