The South Dakota Highway Patrol has scheduled sobriety checkpoints for the month of May in the following counties: Beadle, Brown, Brule, Charles Mix, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Faulk, Hughes, Lawrence, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington, Potter, Roberts, and Sanborn.

In addition to detecting alcohol or drug impaired drivers, the Highway Patrol uses sobriety checkpoints to remind the public of the dangers of drinking and driving.

I am sooooo thankful we pay taxes to fund these entrapments to protect us from ourselves.

then if ya walk/stagger home they pinch ya for being drunk in public ......of course Im gonna drive home ......muh

Amen somebody else gets it that these checkpoints are crap!!!

2 accidents IN TOWN (Billings, MT) last week that killed people. A 17 yr old boy ran a stop sign at 65 and t-boned a nurse heading to work. Also, another killed on city streets...the passenger of course.

Oh, and both drivers were drinking and/or drunk.

That could have been my wife heading to work. I don't have a problem w/ it.

I also don't have a problem with it. If someone gets a DUI the law was broke, the officers were doing their job. Man up and accept the penalty for breaking the law. I have had friends that were killed drinking and driving. Going to friends funerals aren't fun especially when they are young people.

the key here is boys ...drink as much as ya want .....at HOME !!!!

never need to find away home and the pick/up is already in the yard ...

Checkpionts are crap! There is no probable cause for the patrol to contact a person. Unless according to Rister vs the State a driver must swerve over the Yellow line not the white line because that is an "emergency lane".

The whole thing is B.S.! yes! drunk driver kill people yes! its bad! I would like to see A crack down on plain bad drivers who kill at least 10x as many people than drunks do! but I guess its OK to kill people if your just stupid !!

I am 100% against drinking and driving but also 100% agains ADVERTISED check points. Advertising them is like saying "hey guys, don't drink and drive on this road on this night."

Labatts............brings back memories. Some freinds and I went on a fly-in fishing trip 4 years ago, bought 12 cases of blue and blue light, the last day I was so sick, I had to quit eating to make room for beer............................none the less, we had one case left, and 3 years later we found it..............all I have to say is, do not drink 3 year old labatts, it does not age like wine.

Back to the subject, if you have nothing to hide, you have no issue with the checkpoint. If you have an issue with the checkpoint, stay the FU@K off the road, you may kill someone who does not deserve to die.

it's not entrapment if it's advertised. I have no problem with it, but I don't drink and drive. I do have issue with cops hiding on over passes, behind signs or with their lights off to catch speeders though.

soooo, should they (cops) also be able to go door to door and come into your house to make sure you aren't doing anything illegal in there also? don't be so willing to give up your civil liberties, they are being taken away fast enough. BTW i don't drink and drive, always a cab

There is a huge difference between being legally drunk (.08) and actually being drunk.

They pick on us drunks so much, it's almost like they don't even want you to drink & drive anymore.

If you do the crime, you should be prepared to do the time.

In this case, pay a ticket. Do you want the cops to put up a sign saying they're hiding behind a sign 2 miles up the road?

It's simple, you speed, you get caught, you get a ticket. You drive thru an ADVERTISED DUI checkpoint, you get a ticket AND it shows how dumb you are.

Disclaimer: I'm about as far from perfect as one gets.

Also, when I say "YOU", I'm not directing it towards YOU xrated. You, in this case, means ones self.

***steps off soap box***

+1 brother!!

Agree 110%. Nothing wrong with these check points. I would much rather see a drunk go to jail than have my wife or someone I know or do not know get killed by some dumbass who shouldn't be driving. More power to Law Enforcement!!! And to those against this. What are you afraid of?
