Parking lot MISHAPS

Mine is a pretty common story, but with a twist.

I was loading a sled onto a tilt-deck trailer. I didn't have my normal gloves and was wearing my snowboarding mitts instead... not ideal, but doable. Well i get about as far up on the trailer as i need to be and i grab the brake. Of course, with my big, clumsy mitts, i also got a pretty good dose of left-hand-throttle.

Now this actually all ocurred during the summertime, i was shooting a commercial for my trailer business, and i was using a borrowed sled from the polaris dealership, and a borrowed brand new truck from the GM dealership. And, since it was for a commercial it was of course being filmed and there were several people around!

So sure enough, the sled lunges off the front of the trailer. Somehow I jumped over the the side and kept the borrowed sled from flipping upside down onto the bare asphalt, but not before the ski dented the tailgate on the new truck.

Fortunately the dent doctor was able to fix the tailgate for a minimal charge (I thought i was gonna have to buy a new one) and there was no other damage.

Yeah, i was a little nervous on the reshoot! But i ditched the mitts and everything was fine. And yes, the TV guys sent me video later.

If you've got video you need to post it.

I don't have video on this computer, but i've got it somewhere, it's really not as entertaining to watch as it sounds, but if i can track it down i'll post it.

Another one. My dad had his sled on one of those grey pnuematic motorcycle work lifts. Was all finished working on the sled and lowered it down. Fired up the sled, burped the throttle to drive off the stand.. the skis were already on the ground so instead of the sled going forward, the lift shot out from under the track at like 20 mph and slammed into the base of a big toolbox, which flipped the toolbox up in the air, all the drawers opened, tools were everywhere and the toolbox was all smashed up. He was not a happy camper.

back in the early 80s sleds never had tps switches. a guy in my town started his sled and the trottle stuck wide open. the sled took of out of the yard onto the frozen ocean ice, it kept goin till it got to the shipping lane and sunk into the ocean

mishaps

so my brother goes out riding with his buddy one day, about evening time i get a call from my brother while im at work, he says our buddy is being towed out and he is riding with and i need to come pick em up, so i head outta work like hell grab my dads nice enclosed trailer cus my 2 up trailer is outta commission, finally i get to the parking lot to pick these guys up and this huge guy (400plus:eek:) who towed our buddy on his ski doo 1000 out(looked like a gorrila trying to ride a tricycle), he centers up on my dads trailer to pull our buddy in then pull out the other side, well un be-knownst this dude is somehow wasted (he's huge) and he pins it and nails the diamond plate traction pads on each side with his carbides doing like thirty, the big guy bounces off the bars and our buddys sled slams the back of the ol' 1000 doing even more damage to both sleds, needless to say that guy was huge but i nicely told him he was kinda retarded,lol, no damage to my dads trailer LUCKILY! :D:beer;

OK..Hate to admit it but here it is..On the way back from a ride I cliped a tree and broke off the brake lever on my M7, I was really carefull while loading and unloading, however as I came up the driveway, with the front garage door open, i reached for the brake and instead hit the left throttle, before I know what had happened I was through the garage and the back garage door and had the tounge of my snowmobile trailer throgh the hood, $1177.00 to the sled and $1900.00 to the garage almost broke my arm as I assume I threw my arm up to ward off the door...Needless to say I can't be trusted with a lefty throttle any more.:D

those lefties can be trouble!!

We need a way to make it so they are only active when both feet are on the left side of the machine. That would prevent a lot of accidents.

I didn't pull this stunt but my buddy did and since he has since sold the sleds and lives 4000 miles away here goes.

I sold him my older cat's. One was a 93 Arctic Cat 580Z and that thing was hellish quick out of the hole. If that sled knew you were looking at the flipper it would start a hole shot. Anyways, we were done riding for the day and he had brought his 7 year old son with him. He was riding with him on the 580z two up. He had a tilt trailer without a top. When he went to run the 580 up on the trailer his son jumped on between him and the bars. I thought to myself, this is not going to be good. No really, this is not going to be good. So Bob, stands on the seat with his knee with his son between him and the flipper. The next thing I hear is the 580 launching and I mean launching! It sounded like a boat load of sailors coming into to port after a month at sea and heading toward the whore house. All I see and it's dark mind you, is a huge black sled fly up and over the trailer into the back of his pickup truck! BAMMMMM ! Thank God he had a tool chest in the back of the truck or he would have been sitting in the front seat.

I don't think his son ever touched the flipper again.. Scared the $hit out of the kid and Bob had to hit the laurel to clean his pants.. After I realized they were both ok I laughed my a$$ off.

I miss that 580z That thing hauled balls..

Worst i have had happen was loading my M7 into my big 79, still rockin the 40's for winter. Truck was parked pretty off level, and when she nosed down after climbing the ramp, i had a ski hanging over the box side, sitting on the bellypan haha. The truck didnt mind it, but it was a bit hard lifting it back over and into place, and only a few seen it.

Someone needs to post pics of the sled deck tearing out of the box of the truck, and the guy on the hood, and i think a guy hanging off the side of the sled deck. Need those pics to get my buddy worked up about loading on his new deck.

I see this trick about a half dozen times every winter - always scary lookin'!

Has not happened yet, but im sure my days are numbered. I purchased a sled deck last year, and every time I unload and load, I have a croud of people watching. I have no idea where they all come from, but they all stand and watch saying "I got to see this!" So far I have not had a problem, but WHEN i do it will happen in front of a bunch of people and I will feel like an A**.

Apparently loading these sled decks is worth finding a truck in the parking lot with one on it and waiting until the owner comes back to load it up.. Seem like it's one hell'va show. :camera:

2 years ago after an awsome day ride at the Sgagway summit I ate the ramp on the trailer bigtime ..fookin sgags grabbed and the ramp did a 180 into my face ,,,num num

blood and swelling ......knocked my windshield off ,..the impact killed my sled ......couple cold beer on the way home and three weeks later .....

...I was at the warming hut, in a hurry, half a sandwich stuffed in my mouth, backpack not snugged up all the way, grab some throttle, backpack pulls backwards, hand and finger still wrapped on throttle but can't quite let go because your just totally way out of balance and riding off like a cowboy finishing up on a bronc but finally get bucked off .04 seconds before the buzzer. Yepp, been there on that one.....funny as hell when your laying in the snow and your buds are snapping pics.

Hey, remember the time my girlfriend ran into your trailer???? Thankfully she wasnt hurt yesterday

This didn't happen in a parking lot but it is still a good one. One time my buddy and I got home from a long three day ride up at Petersville. It is about 250 miles away from our place so we were pretty tired. As we went to unload the sleds off the trailer and into the garage, my friend decided to use the Reverse feature. As he Brapped it off the trailer backwards into the garage he gased it and as soon as he was in the garage on the cement he slammed on the brakes. Well for some reason the sled's front end whipped a 180 right into a truck frame which was on some stands in the garage. Of course all of the truck frame came crashing down onto the hood of the sled. Surprisingly all it did was scratch the hood deep across the whole left side. It was amazing to see.

My buddy has a Summit 1000 that had the suitcase muffler in it. We talked him into a can so he didn't sound like a puce even though he rides like one. So a few days later we're all in the garage drinken beers and we decide to fire it up to see how it sounds. Well my dumb@$$ is standing on the right side running boards revving it up and he says "come on more more". I gave it too much more and got dumped off the side as the sled runs into the back of a flatbed trailer. $80 with shipping for a new bumper, boy I felt stupid. Now when I rev other peoples sleds in the garage I make sure I am not on them, I could have been hurt, lol.

Last year loading up onto the sled deck in front of my parents place in the city, on the praries, a few of the neighbors were watching. Never seen a mountain sled or a deck I'm sure. So I forget to pin the two sections of the ramp together, and hit said ramp with a little trackspin. I got almost all the way up onto the deck when the bottom half of the ramp shot back, causing the top half to drop down against the tailgate. Well sled's pointing straight up into the sky, I'm falling on my back on the road and scrambling to get out of the way of the sled that's coming down sideways and fast.

Casualties included: Small crack in the hood, cracked taillight housing, bruised ego, and a few people from winnipeg who'll never buy a sled deck.

I have a deck with a crane on it now.

Back a long time ago on an exciter at the end of a poker run there was this short cut through a feild then over a big snow pile into the parking lot. I was last in line and the trail was well used going over the snow pile so I carried a little more speed to make it through the trench but what I didn't know that there was a trailer parked close to the pile. I made it over but with to much speed hit the ice and slid under the trailer. Cracked hood

Many years later later on a new escape at 0600 in the morning, put the four wheeler ramp into the back of my truck... carbides hit the aluminum and take hold pushing the ramp up slaming the tailgate shut with the sled half way up on the tailgate. dented and scratched tailgate.

A moist spring morning had the sled loaded up on the deck and was about to load up my RM250 for a track day before hitting the mountians, the ramp was wet and, well lost traction at the top started back down, foot missed the cross bar on the ramp bike came down on top of me smashing the throttle of course wide open. Broken brake lever, tore seat, brused leg.

The first one alot of people seen, the other two I was alone. The bike stayed home.
