Parking lot MISHAPS

okay everyone makes fun of the parking lot cowboys/posers/wannabe bad A$$s.

but we all know some of the worst wrecks happen loading/unloading/ in the parking lot or within 1/4 of the damn thing.

I have a few stories, when learning to ride the first two years, I rolled my sled every single ride (literally). No kidding ask Pernikm, I rode it like I stole it. during the second season on trip, I went all day and no rollovers, about 1/4 mile from the parking lot the trail was all whooped out so I skirted the edge of the road right where it was at a steep ravine on the side, I was beat and careless, you can probably guess, I rolled of the the road down into a ravine, feeling like a complete ***.

another time I was loading onto an open trailer (sideways). I never did figure out what the hell happened, I was coasting about the right speed to climb up the ramp and the next second I was across the trailer, back on the ground skidding on the ice trying not to go under the truck 40 feet away. I swear I hit a friggin time warp or something. I dont remember even hitting the ramp.

My personal best was at the end of a ride, you have to understand I was on a streak 8 breakdown/crash trips in a row A really bad streak. I ended the ride parked behind my enclosed trailer, happy the streak had been broken. we undressed in the trailer and chatted about the ride. when it came time to load, I jumped on the sled and headed towards the ramp, a long shallow ramp as my trailer is very tall. I got to the ramp blipping the throttle doing about 15 mph maybe 20 I usually just coast in not under power. when all of the sudden I'm flying into the trailer opening. I land about 1/2 down my 30 ft trailer, pissed off like nobodys business, broken windshield, cracked hood, and my ego severly damaged. my sled is sitting at the ramp idling. What the hell? The ski wear bar had gotten bent downward hitting a rock earlier in the day, it went under the door and stopped the sled cold, on closer inspection I bent my A arms also. I can smile now but not then! :D:beer;

C'mon, what have you done.

dad and I were at the orv park. ktm had just com out with the lc 604. this dude was all geared up in ricky racer gear. we all showed up at the same time......we were just puting the helmets on when dude hopps on the 604 grabs 2nd and goes over backwards.......subframe, fender pride......all gone.

same park, 5 years later, I had my husky 610 warmed up. the bike had big power and crap for a tranny. I rip through 1st......2nd......the neutral between 2nd and 3rd........BAD BAD noise. wooosh woosh wooooosh! my buddy walys over with an exhaust valve head and says, " I don't know where this goes, but it came from your exhaust pipe

neighbor had a sled deck back in the 70's-early 80's......after a few too many beverages he loaded up in the yard. his deck loaded from the side (yes sleds have not always been 15' long) he over shot the deck, the skiis dangled off the side.......there it goes!!!! nabes sled dives off the deck, skiis hit the ground, nabes face hits the ground.......ski tails smash into the side of the truck and the sled flops over on him. he got a bit bloody on that deal. it was scary to watch, but 25 years later it is still fresh in my head........thanks wayne!!!!!

Last year I was unloading at Corbin parking lot. There was a poker run riding out of the parking lot on this day. While I was locking up my trailer I noticed this guy a couple of trucks away revving up his machine on a flat deck trailer.I don't know why I even watched but all of a sudden he revved it up and then pinned it in reverse off the trailer and parked it under the pick up parked behind him.Needless to say he damaged the side of the pick up bad and pretty much wrote off his sled. They had a heck of a time getting the back end of that sled from under the truck.Buddy was lucky he didn't hurt him self.I didn't laugh at the time as I was more concerned with his well being but on the drive back to Calgary at the end of the day it gave us all a good laugh.

Cheers,
Dave

Two summers ago I bought my girlfriend an 04 skidoo rev 800, as my girlfriend was dealing with the paperwork from the previous owner i was loading the sled on an open two place trailer, I had never ridden a skidoo or an 800 at that point in my life as i am newer to snowmobiling so i went up the trailer at a faster than normal rate and when i went to hit the brake i actually hit the gas, then flew off the front of the trailer and in to the back of her SUV. Needless to say she gave the guy the money and he then said sold as is as it was pinned between the trailer and the truck. I managed to break the hood and the front bumper of the sled and severly ruin my ego, fortunately there was only one guy to witness this chaos, but i was ***gin pissed at myself. what an idiot, now i get a good laugh about it, but the dent is still in the back of her truck

A few years ago in Oregon watched a dude with loaded up two place plus two sleds cross ways on his truck bed go out the in way (it was one way only). Things got tight so he squeezed to the right and dragged the rear skids of the two sleds on his truck across two parked pickup hoods.
Good times during the fight.

Same Here

That happened to me also on my old doo, caught the carbide on the ramp...quite a ride. Didnt fall off tho, but hit my head on the windshield and bent the ramp but not the sled!

Lets see, 1st one was overshooting a 2 place open and slamming into fold-up front ramps. No damage, but bruised ego. I now load with front ramps down.

2nd happened just a few weeks ago. Loading Escape in truck bed, aluminum ramp with no slides. Hit the ramp too slow and carbides dug in. Amazing how quick a sled will stop. Again no damage but ego. Ramp now has slides on it.

well last year we were out in mcbride last ride of the year there was 3 of us out and we had a four place trailer and me and buddy loaded our sleds first all was good than the last guy went to load his and got a fist full of throttle and landed right on top of buddies new m1000 till this day buddy will not load his sled we always have to do it for him witch might be a good things

Damages new tunnel extension bumper tail light and still working on the ego

Watched a guy showin off on the ice in "reverse" and put it on its sied in a hurry. Broken plastic, everybody watchin' everyone laughin...........

Worst i have had happen was loading my M7 into my big 79, still rockin the 40's for winter. Truck was parked pretty off level, and when she nosed down after climbing the ramp, i had a ski hanging over the box side, sitting on the bellypan haha. The truck didnt mind it, but it was a bit hard lifting it back over and into place, and only a few seen it.

Someone needs to post pics of the sled deck tearing out of the box of the truck, and the guy on the hood, and i think a guy hanging off the side of the sled deck. Need those pics to get my buddy worked up about loading on his new deck.

I learned a valuable lesson the hard way with my first sled deck several years back. Make sure the deck is pretty close to level side to side before you attempt lift off. I have an 8’ ramp up to my deck that sits nearly 6’ off the ground which makes for a pretty steep ramp ride. I have never came close to putting a sled on my cab, but I did take one over the edge twice in the same loading attempt, before I solved the mystery. Fortunately for soft snow there was no damage to the sled and my wife was the only witness.

Wasnt in the parking lot, but was infront of the subway in island park(i think, may of been in MT.) anyways, waiting for everyone to get out from eating and thought I would have a litttle fun a do some donuts in that road. well, just as everyone decided to exit the subway, The track caught and fliped me and sent me flyin.. Man, I felt like a dweeb.

Mine is a pretty common story, but with a twist.

I was loading a sled onto a tilt-deck trailer. I didn't have my normal gloves and was wearing my snowboarding mitts instead... not ideal, but doable. Well i get about as far up on the trailer as i need to be and i grab the brake. Of course, with my big, clumsy mitts, i also got a pretty good dose of left-hand-throttle.

Now this actually all ocurred during the summertime, i was shooting a commercial for my trailer business, and i was using a borrowed sled from the polaris dealership, and a borrowed brand new truck from the GM dealership. And, since it was for a commercial it was of course being filmed and there were several people around!

So sure enough, the sled lunges off the front of the trailer. Somehow I jumped over the the side and kept the borrowed sled from flipping upside down onto the bare asphalt, but not before the ski dented the tailgate on the new truck.

Fortunately the dent doctor was able to fix the tailgate for a minimal charge (I thought i was gonna have to buy a new one) and there was no other damage.

Yeah, i was a little nervous on the reshoot! But i ditched the mitts and everything was fine. And yes, the TV guys sent me video later.

I was loading the boys 600 Mountain max onto a two place open in boulder parking lot. I was cruising up to the ramp the ski hit the ramp dis-lodged it off of the trailer flipping it over so quick like a big spring trap. luckily i was not going too fast.it gave me a good crack on the hands though, and stopped just in time as not to wedge the sled and ramp under the rear of the trailer.
One incident I witnessed out at Mcbride, some guys had a deck and a two place open. they would off load the two place and drive the sleds off the deck on to the two place then off. well when loading the driver came up onto the two place, got crossed up some how, slid halfway off and slammed into the tailgate leavind a big dent and braking out the tail light. Maybe too many wobbly pops. Have also seen a few guys come off the side of their ramps loading onto a deck, heard of another one loading so fast that he landed right on the roof of his pick up, and then just drove right off the front of the truck down over the hood and back to the ground. never actually witnessed that one. just hear-say.

a couple yrs ago we were unloading off a buddys open trailer where you just jacknife the truck and use this fancy angle ramp well long story short the sleds skis were on the ground(gravel) and the track was still on the ramp with the assend way in the air so my buddy just burps the throttle to get it to come down of the trailer, the sled doesnt move but the ramp sure did, its shot a good 15-18 feet up and over the rest of the trailer good times lol

Just got off the phone with a buddy to get yesterday's snow report and hear about any carnage for the day. The sledding part went great, a little cold (-25C) but a great day of riding by the sound of it.

Here's the scene: Sleds safely loaded, truck idling and warming up, 2 sled trailer hooked up to the truck with one more sled in the box, tailgate closed and track on the top of the tailgate. Tom jumped up in the box and reached out into the back of the sled's seat to grab the gatorade in there before it freezes solid and explodes. He slipped on the snow covered truck bed, took the tailgate edge in the ribs, flipped out of the truck and landed on his back across the trailer tongue!!

He is in a bit of pain today, to say the least. I told him to suck it up princess.....It's dumping right now and we're goin' riding tomorrow!!

hahaha, those are the worst pinit. Especially if anyone see's it, like some kind of circus act as your making your way to the icey ground. Climbing into my truck.... hypothetically speaking, you COULD slip with snowy shoes on the nerf bars, bounce off the sill plate/bars, and wind up on your lips under the truck... Not cool lol

Or this one...

...I was at the warming hut, in a hurry, half a sandwich stuffed in my mouth, backpack not snugged up all the way, grab some throttle, backpack pulls backwards, hand and finger still wrapped on throttle but can't quite let go because your just totally way out of balance and riding off like a cowboy finishing up on a bronc but finally get bucked off .04 seconds before the buzzer. Yepp, been there on that one.....funny as hell when your laying in the snow and your buds are snapping pics.

couple years back i was wheeling through a drift next to where we parked the truck in the mtn's here, buddys where loading on to the 4 place, throttle cable stuck as i wheellyed and when she come down i was pointed at the pickup about 20 yards away, tried to unstick it and pull er over before i hit, didn't happened, hit the drivers side front tire goin about 30 mph, front bumper peeled me off the sled and flipped me up in the air, ripped all the suspension off my 03 800 on the right side, bent the pipe and the front fender of the pickup, my right leg was black, blue, green, yellow for quite awhile, embarassing, buds thought i killed myself,
