P90X (anybody tried this yet)

The program is flat out awesome. My wife and I started our second round on the first after daylight savings ended. Its like anything, you get out of it what you put into it. There is a LOT of people wasting their time at the gym just going through the motions. A lot of "campers" at the machines. This program rocks. Its VERY hard. Not for people that arn't already in shape.

Did our Plyometrics program last night. 1 hour of jump training P90X style !! 55 degrees in the " studio" ( man cave ) and sweating like a mo fo !
It is a very motivating program and you will see results really quick.
I am sooo much stronger, running, quading, mtb'ing and in bed !:D

Plyometrics is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in a specific sport. Plyometric movements, in which a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, use the strength, elasticity and innervation of muscle and surrounding tissues to jump higher, run faster, throw farther, or hit harder, depending on the desired training goal.

As Tony Horton says....BRING IT !!

Heres a pic of the "Hot shot scott " and his ripped little P90X Irish Hottie ! at Halloween.

Looking at it, & it says there's 3 phases. Does everybody start on phase 1, then 90 days later go to phase 2, and so on? How hard is the diet plan they provide for you?

The 3 phases are each thirty days where intensity and exercises change. Everyone does start on pahse 1, basically you have to test in at the begining to determine your starting point for each exercise.

I have it but not started, planning on starting next week if all goes well.

Have not heard a bad review of it, everything I have read about it says it works.

let me know I can maybe send you some of the books pages as I have them scanned.

The workouts are hard (the first month, Chest&Back/Ab days are killer) but it does work. I had the hardest time with the diet. My Wife and Kids didn't change to accomadate my high protien first month. By the end of the first month I had stripped off 10lbs and added back 5 of muscle. Visable change that quickly.

You do have to be in somewhat decent shape already or the workouts will be just too hard. Tony does motivate you on the DVD's but do not get discouraged when they crank out more reps than you can. I still can not keep up with them on pullups.

Go for it, good luck.

Is it just a set of dumbells that you need, or is there something else I'm missing? How do you determine what weight you need? I think I'm gonna try it, but not sure what else you need to buy. Thanks!

You will need a chin up bar.
I bought mine on e bay or you can buy one from their website. It weges in a door jam. You will need several diff weights. Try craigslist.
I love their vitamins and their recovery drink.

It's the most legit exercise program I've ever seen. You will be amazed what it does to your body... just stick with it...

Get some bands, makes things a little more "doable" if you can't do many pullups.

Get the drink, it's amazing.

I can't say enough about it.

If you don't mind, do you have any scanned pages about the diet? I'd like to see how far off I am with mine. I'm going to look for the pull up bar this weekend, and hopefully start in the next few weeks. I already run about 3-4 days a week and swim. I eat pretty health too, I just want to see what they have for the diet plan.

Thanks

Anyone starting this program soon. I am looking to start first week of december after the holiday weekend. Have heard this program works best with a dare I say partner, to keep focused with. ANyone let em know.

it looks to me like it has all the right elements to be a great overall workout program combining strengh training, aerobics, endurance all that.

I need to get on a program like that but I'm too damned busy trying to get to where I can bench 450 pounds hahahah :D

Look deeper into the program, there are actually 3 seperate programs in one, dependant on intensity. There are 2 weight loss, dependant on goal and starting and a third for strength.
Not trying to pimp the program, as my aimis weight loss at this point. But was into strength training in my earlier years, before life got in the way. Am hoping to get through the weight loss and then restart the program again for strength training. 90 days, cut then restart, and 180 days out buff. Shall see, Maybe not be 'big poppa pump' big, but get back to basics, get out of the life rut.
Everything I have seen, read about the program, is it is about and hour tops out of day, an hour out of day from home with minimal needs. I hope it works for me, as I was a gym rat for many years, 2 hours a day, sometimes 1+ hr twice a day, man I miss working out with 225 barbell without a spotter. I miss that, but house payments and house maintenance, can stop the best made plans of getting to the gym.

Sorry not trying to bash you on what you may want, if that was your true goal Dog' but let you know there are options within the program.

We are starting week 4 today. My wifes second round, she has been a GREAT motivator ! She knows the programs and we modify it a little. I hit the gym mon, wed, fri and run interval hills on the tread mill AND this program.
I raced all weekend at our local bike park ( mtb ) and kicked azz. I am SO much stronger on the bike and feel good all day.The older we get the more we need programs like this. Its hard to motivate your self in the gym but its easy and motivating to follow a fast paced in your face program that shows results so quickly. Its getting easier.:D

Its getting easier.:D

I'm glad you said that! I started it last week, and after the 1st 3 days, I couldn't even hardly walk. Every part of my body hurt. On day4, I got kind of bored with the Yoga, so I just went and jumped on the treadmill for 30 minutes, and did the ab ripperX again.

Starting week 2 today, hope it gets easier for me! The diet isn't too bad after you do it for a few days. It's that eating 5 or 6 times a day instead of once that's hard getting used to. The Abs workout is only 16 minutes, and you do it every other day along with another workout. The rest of dvd's are close to an hour. I think the Yoga is about an hour and a half.

Also giving up the beer for a while is a killer.

On a positive note, I did loose 4.5lbs this week.

Right on CB
We dont do the Yoga. I never have and my wife dosent like it. We dont do the diet but close. Just eat right. Give up the BEER ??? Nah, just cut back and switched to Coors Light. Thats been big for me. Doing the program makes me not able to have a beer when I get home and after I crave a Poweraid or something.
I like more cardio for stamina so 4 miles 3 times a week for me. interval Hills..2 minutes up @ 6.5 mph, 2 minutes flat @ 7.5.
We had 6 ! guys ripping down the 4 cross course ( 4 riders at a time down a downhill course ) Saturday banging elbows into the corners. Then you have to climb back up. Did about a dozen runs and guys were running out of gas. I was loving it !

Work hard to play HARDER !! BRING IT !!

Oh no you aren't bashing me at all ... in fact, it would really do me a lot of good to incorporate elements of a program like that into my work out ...

And, I understand completley about the house payment type thing ... I just started a new job and I am gonna be busy busy busy busy busy busy as a mofo with it, so I may have to forgoe the real heavy weight lifting thing and take on something that keeps me healthy and in shape but without having to spend so much time in the gym ... I'd probably be a lot "healthier" overall if I incorporated more aerobics ... I do a little bit of cardio but not near as much as I should...

I might give this P90x thing a try and see what happens.

Start the program again on monday, started once with past housing situation was not working. Chubby mine if PM you on some help, through it.?

Idahdoo, as a Coors Light drinker, and a brother whom is much more out of shape than myself, he had doctors recomendations to switch to miller lite, if doc says is less total cals and less carbs, I am going to look into it while on program.

Dogmeat, llok up at my previous posts to the link to the weight loss forum. I have found there are a number of people and links through there that are looking for gains not just loss. There are ways to use this program for mass/muscle gains. From what I have read, it just involves changing the weights you use, from the lean program. Take a look around there as I know there is input on the program for muscle gain. If you can not find it let me know, as I know the guide book has some input on it, I can scan it and send you that part to let you decide if you want to try it.

Great program.

I'm a cop and a volunteer firefighter.
I recommend this program to anyone looking to get in all around great shape.

I have done www.crossfit.com as well and like it too, but p90x is better structured.

Oh, at first I hated the Yoga too, but stayed with it. I still hate it, but now I can at least do it. Not easy.
