Overly strong A arms.......

Well my self i guess i have been lucky but my sled has hit a lot of stumps and im on the orginal a arms and skid. by the way if you have ever priced out a nun and random parts online its cheaper then a 1000 dollars to fix. so i dont no how you figure its more money.

wow whats this another 5 you are adding up the post today & all the same:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Ok, so after over 30 years of sledding I finally nailed a tree, a big one too. Was grrring pretty hard up hill, hit a 3 foot Doo trench and was re-directed into a 4' diameter pine at 35 - 40 mph. Got pretty bruised up by the handle bars during eject. (and they got pushed way forward too) Front bumper was mashed pretty good, but got that usable straightened out and re-welded right side mount bracket. I thought I was lucky until.... well I saw this post. I took a few looks at my spindles and noticed the right side was more towards vertical than the left. Duh-oh. Time to order a front frame. Federal Way Yamaha shop price online was $390, so not too bad I guess. Pretty cheap for hitting a solid object at that speed. I shook the tree hard enough to knock snow out of it, so there was quite a bit of energy transferred. Nice thing is that it doesn't change the ride or handling, so I can ride until the parts are in with no issues. Heck, it's time to change the oil anyway so I'll git-r all done at the same time.

Nice posts though, glad I'm not the only one seeing this issue. I'll pass it on to Yamaha and see what they say.

LG

Add me to the list of bent subframe, hit a rock under the snow while sidehilling. Sucks because my barkbusters came in today and only to install them to find my bent subframe, although I kinda knew it was coming just was hoping it was only the a arm.

Wow, after all this time lurking around Yamaha websites you finally found something minor to tell your buddies, that must make you feel great. This is a first year sled, one issue surfaced, pretty minor campared to the laundry list of problems the other first year sleds have. It does not even matter really any way because when I am running 16 lbs of boost my skis don't touch the snow anyway.

WELL SAID!!!!

Man you guys are freakin me out, just went to the garage to check my sled. I hit a stump (coming out of the snow at 45 degrees) It stuck itself between the upper and lower A-arm and stopped the sled so fast it flipped me over bars and I landed in front of the sled on the snow. A little damage to the body plastic, but the front end looks perfect and straight.

I would buy a cromoly one (even if it was not bent) if it would save some weight and it were stronger. Somebody would sell alot of them if they made a whole front end w/ Crome moly A-Arms to go with it!

Front frame assembly is still back ordered with no estimated ship date. I am still riding, but I wish they could get the parts out a little faster. What if the sled was not operable, I would hate to loose a whole season for lack of parts.....

just went outside with a 2x4 and looked at my spindles...you guessed it, my right side measures about an inch different than the left. I'm calling the dealer tomorrow to log this with yamaha. Who knows...maybe they'll build us a stronger front end or at least replace them for us.

Fyi

It took me 1 month to get the ball joint in the lower A arm, this is a phazer and I think the nytro is the same. Sled was down from Dec 10 to Jan 12.
I tried numerous dealers in Alberta and two in the US and they all said it was backordered to yamaha.

small log under the pow, 24 miles from dealership, just picked it up today - TWEAKED! hope we get a stiffer one offered soon!

make sure you call that yamaha number in this post motopsycho and file a complaint about the durability of the front end, there is too many guys with the same problem maybe soon they will find a fix.

Anymore info on this problem? Mine still appears straight and true after only 90 miles. Anyone know if the parts are still on back order?
Damn I love this sled, hope this issue can be resolved.... Never would've dreamed Yammie would produce "weak" parts???

Make sure it's not really an a-arm that is bent. Apparantly the a-arms are pretty flexible and should bend before the subframe. I thought my subframe was bent after hitting a rock but upon closer inspection the lower a-arm just looks tweaked which will cause the bottom of the spindle to swing back and make the subframe look bent.

if you guys can, actually take some measurements so we can all know exactly what is bent. There's a 12 page thread about this on TY.

At first I thought only my a arms were bent until I put my new timbersled front end on and everything was way off. Although I hit the rock so hard it tacoed my spindle. I have been riding even though the frame is bent and it has not gotton any worse. I even tried putting the old a arms back on and bending it back with big bars and 2by4s, all it did though was bend the original a arms. When I put the timbersled front end on the frame was still tweaked. I just got a call from my dealer in Fairbanks and they said my subrame has come in, so I hope to pick it up tommorrow and put it on this week. I ordered it after the holidays so it did not take as long as I thought it would.
