Over heating???

No difference in steering and successfully drilled and retained the short end of the spring , come on TT tree riding is the best 😎😎
Tree riding is great. Just thinking how many times I've bounced around ski off a tree or just squeezed through. Those would have ended badly.

Scratchers are on the inside of the ski outside would be a nightmare!!!! If you hit those inside ones on a tree me thinks you got a butt load more issues 😎😎😎🤣🤣

Finished MTNVIPERS snow flap.mod tonite ride and test on Sunday , just a heads up for those of you who may try this with the Arctic cat Evo rear bumper, to the guy who designed that bumper you deserve a good kick in the balls , if he would have designed it 1/2" longer in the back it would be way easier to get the stock snow flap screws on the outsides out , luckily I have a good set of Wiha specialty long torx type tee handles and was able to get them out must have been a ex Ford engineer. Report on temps after Sunday .

Those of you that have cats EVO rear bumper this is what you get when doing the snow flap mod, an 858 that's OD'd on the Blue pill . Saw temps as high as 160 going in , snow sucked as temps had warmed up and snow went to sierra cement . As soon as I could find areas to get off the trail it would cool down . Looking at this same snow flap on the Doo's I rode with, the bottom of the flap is about 5-6" from the track not 2 feet !!! So this mod with the Evo is no bueno on helping with temps . Soooo I am on a quest to either move the straps higher or add riser blocks under the end that attaches to the flap which should push the flap down . Will not go back to the stock bumper so gotta make this work.

Sled finally got past it's magical 3 hours , pretty much ran like a striped azz ape , when I got to climb it thru the fog up the MTN it wasn't even trying definitely has some ooompf.

Jaws race ,can well it's to quiet for my liking but I like em loud , trail speeds 35-45 mph ,55-6500 rpms it's not much louder than stock when you mash it it barks ,but not obnoxious by any means . May end up seeing if anybody on here has a low hour rowdy can to trade for the race can will ride it a couple more times and see if it grows on me or not. Other than that and some fiddling with front suspension settings really like the sled , but only have 3 hours on it time will tell . Oh and rpms hit 8250 didn't get a chance to load it down due to 50' visibility !

I'm in the same boat here with the Evo rear bumper.. Trying to figure out a way to angle the flap down.

I was thinking about trying to fasten the actual skidoo snow guard to the sled. Probably some trimming required..

I just finally got my a chance to ride my 25 ZR 858 ATAC. One thing that surprised me is how hot it ran on snow packed roads with little loose snow on it. Every time I road on a road for a 3-5 miles, it would get so hot and almost overheat. The temp outside was 8 F. Was riding with 2 2024 Polaris and they had no issues. One time event got the red temp flash and went off into a ditch and it cooled back down. When you stop, it will go to idle and then it increases up to 2200rpm, which must be a way to try and cool it down. I ride with Polaris and Skid Doo riders and I was the only one having this issue. Only happened on snow packed plowed roads. Going to install ice scratchers for sure. Outside of that, it performed flawlessly.

SO I was breaking in my new 154 this weekend, and boy did it run hot w the scratchers down, feathering the throttle, and in good snow on the trail. Just hit the BI point where it would hit 8250, stock w 58 gm weights in for altitude. I ride really technical single track in the summer w an old Husky 300 and that thing used to overheat fairly regularly, I run Engine Ice in that bike now and in the same slow hot conditions. Does anyone run that type of coolant in their sleds? Or has anyone experimented with better propellers in the pump....if that is even an option? Or would that coolant impact the seals etc.?

Mountain sled?

Some run water wetter which was designed for racing, with distilled water , it will help with antifreeze but the jury is out on how much or how many degrees . Best thing to do is add a second set of scratchers to your skis and do MTNVIPERS snow flap mod ( as long as you have the stock rear bumper it helps as much as 20°) these sleds have been doing this since the rear exchanger got dumped in the interest of saving 5 lbs , some of us aren't lucky enough to unload in 3' of blower powder most of the time 😎😎

When you stop, it will go to idle and then it increases up to 2200rpm,
My 20 Hardcore does the same thing I believe it is a way to clear fuel since the injection isn't a throttle body type and I am sure it has to do with some Kind of emissions B S. 858 does same thing as the C-Tec 2 800 does .

I was wrong on the idle. When you let off throttle it goes down to idle and then throttles up to 2500-2600 rpm. Not sure how long it will run like this as I shut sled off and took a break. Definitely ordering some water wetter and installing ice scratchers. Did confirm coolant level is adequate and even tilted my trailer so the back was lower in case there was an air bubble. Next ride, took it out and it didn't overheat but got close. Once I gets some snow on it, the temp goes down quickly. I have the Arctic Cat EVO rear bumper.

Working on the fix for the flap tonite and in the am should have it done with pics MTNVIPER said 20° on his with that flap stock bumper !!! As far as the idle it is clearing fuel out of the case wouldn't worry about that to much 800 like I said does exactly the same !!

Added a 1/2" riser block to each side of the flap , then a 1/8" delrin extension piece . The extension piece is 3-3/4 " long you can see all the szhat to make this in the pics. The flap ended up being about 5" from the lugs like the factory doo's are . You can also adjust the distance by sliding the rubber attachment points in or out on the Evo Bumper , must say with all the negative and positive pieces I made all sides got sanded and painted with SEM trim black like a rubics cube putting it all together 😁 think it should be good to go now will try it this weekend 😎

Nice work arcticridr (y) I think that you'll be presently surprised on how much cooler it runs on the packed snow. I still monitor the coolant temperature, but pretty much don't worry about it overheating anymore.

Thanks Viper , just took your creation and tweaked it for the damn Evo bumper , be damned if I was gonna put the stock grab rail back on . Glad I bought a 24x36 mud flap I have several .... how should we say prototypes on the bench now . The riserblocks helped get the hard part of the doo strap above the factory cat shorty flap(was hitting pretty hard) and helped "push" the angles down , then had to make several 1/8 delrin pieces of different lengths to get it correct, then had to make the left and right , got a couple extra lefts lol Took longer than expected , I have 3 roll around tool boxes full of tools and only a small tub with " wood working stuff" so struggled on some of the shaping , alot of hand shaping 😎 hope it works ,will see this weekend . I did notice one thing when it got the warmest 160°, the tunnel was packed with snow , probably cus we went from 32° and sierra cement to 24° and powder think she got iced up will have to watch that a little closer never had that happen before ???

Just got back from my preliminary night trail ride test in IP, 165” mtn cat, stock flap and scratchers, about 18 miles strictly trail, low to mid 20’s outside temp, less than an inch of fresh snow on the trail, ran low to mid 130’s the whole time except where we slowed down through parking lots then crept up to around 140. So far not bad, and no worse than my flapless ‘20 alpha. More “testing” maniana.
