out with two pros yesterday, how they compare to the etec

the etec can was a tss

take it for what it is guys, these comments come from myself and your own poo riders

just happen to be riding with these guys those days, your tension on the sterring is hard in comparsion and plays a guy out.... power never impressed me one bit, and the big hi bars well.............other than that great

most guys like to hear other rider comments, not some of you:face-icon-small-sho

Well I am glad to hear comments from Doo, Cat, yamaha and poo riders on this forum. I do not own a Pro and will probably be in the market for new mountain sled next season. So hearing others opinion on the Pro is great, especially if they are from another brand because then you know they are not biased toward the Pro.

With that said you still have to process the information with what you have already experienced and know. I also know that Doo riders have become some of the most brand biased out there. The new doo does seem to have nice improvements over the old to help it in its handling.

I have read a lot of comments on the new Pro and People who love it enough to switch from a M-series is huge. That says a lot for this sled.

I have the 08 RMK Raw chassis and love that so I can only imagine how the Pro must handle. So I have a trip planned in a few weeks with at least 6 guys that only buy Ski-doo. I wonder how that will go?

Come next year, I'm sure that Cat will have something to give Polaris a run for their money. We'll see. I'd love to see you switch to the PRO, but you might still be on a Cat next year. HA HA

Haha that's very true. Only time will tell. The cats next year better be very impressive cause after riding the pro I believe that is the best chassis/sled out there for my type of riding. PolAris did a great job on this sled.

Fred, as far as the steering being stiff..someone posted that theirs was, and that they found a burred up spot on the upper bushing, that once filed down, fixed the stiff steeering..neither mine or the 2 others I have rode have been any stiffer then the etec I rode yesterday...as for non impressive power..thats odd because both doo guys(diehard too), said the poo pulled just as hard if not harder then the etec...sorry you dont like the new poo..but the etec is a great sled as well and will easily keep a smile on your face for mile after mile..good luck...

Come on guys leave the poor kid alone, he or they just reported what he saw. I admit if you take 3 people and show them the same thing you could come up with 4 answers.
My report, the Pro pulled harder than the etecs or the last year dragons I have been riding with. The steering was a lot heaver then the etec and after I pulled the steering apart and found the upper bushing on the upper steering post was binding. Did a little sanding on the bushing the pro steering is so much better, still a little harder than the doo but nothing to complain about.
What kind of can did they put on the etec? I have a friend looking to shave 10 lbs off his doo.
PS we all know if “it sounded louder” it must be faster

The only thing I got out of Freds typical totally biased report that I belived, was that if he found the steering too stiff..........he should spend some time at the gym. Other than that, we all know his vision is completely clouded by that BRP yellow hue he has to look thru.

It sounds like it Fred is turning by turning the handlebars, he must have been trail riding??? I didn't notice that my pro turns hard at all.

Wow.....what a bunch of pissypants'. Are you guys serious?? That was about as objective of a review as you get. Yeah Fred drives a doo, but I dont see where he bashed your precious Polaris once.

Im not one bit brand loyal to any of the manufacturers. Im gonna buy whoevers sled is best. Ive been thinking about getting a Pro. In order to do that a guy needs to hear honest objective reviews. Not your mindless pissypants brand loyal bs. How about you change out your tampons for clean ones, pop a midol, and lighten up a bit next time someone posts up a review. :face-icon-small-win

Ha Ha I don't have a Pro, but 3 buddies bought them, so I should get a good chance to ride one this year. To turn my Dragon it was always counter steer lean and complete the turn, on the XP I found it was turn the bars and hope for the best!!!

Ok, I was a bit rough lol. I will admit that the way the skid was setup out of the box, there was alot of ski pressure and the gripper skis do bite hard on the trails and the steering was heavy on my 1st ride til I changed that with some minor suspension adjustments. As for the need to countersteer these things or turn the bars in the powder, these things almost turn themselves. The handle so much like an mx bike. Just lay over, and it just plain follows with you. It is amazing out in the snow it was built for.

If you have followed fred w's post then you would see why no one respects his opinion. He talks alot of shi-. He told us all earlier that the horse power difference was going to get our ***'s kicked by the doos. he has expressed that it wouldnt even compete with the cat or the doo. No one likes to be told that their newly purcahased sled is junk before anyone can compare the sleds.

Well I tell ya what my new RMK has been absolutely amazing.:becky: I'm getting some of the best early season fuel/oil mileage ever. The suspension is holding up really well. It's got great balance and has been incredibly stable -- Hasn't fallen off the lift yet!:thumb:

Lmao, so true slick.

Deaner, you must not read a whole lot of Freddies posts. no matter what sled he compares to his sled is always best. His SKIDOO is better then a tm1000, tm800, tnytro, tapex, turbo'd poo whatever you could possibly do with another sled besides what he has. the only sled that isn't is good as his is the one that he's not on, if you catch my drift.

wow, with a comment like that you better be ready to back it up big guy

i have been riding mountains for 25 years, and have went threw a dozen or so sleds, i work on sleds threw the winter and ride around 40 days a year, i run mostly doos, but have had a poo, and i know my opion is respected

comments like that really tells your exsperience

back to topic.... both sleds had same feeling on sterring, and both poo riders mentioned this after the etec, just ran threw the vids... i will let themknow about the burrs

nobody questions your riding abilities Fred or you know how. they question your ability to come on here and compare your sled to everyone elses sled and in the process make there sleds seem like sh*t. I know there have been many instances in the past where you have done your comparisons and people invited you to come out to show them what you see only to be turned down for some reason. Learn how to be tactful and people might respect your opinions a little more. i dont' doubt the etec is nice, but I would rather have a pro hands down.

Yeah, what he said . And relax Fredw , deaner believes you, so u got a following LOL

What do the owners of the new doo's think about the sway bar? Do you leave them hooked up or do you disconnect them to ride in the trees and the powder??
I rode an etec 153 today and had a heck of a time trying to keep the doo on its side in and out of the trees. Carving to me was very difficult.
On my feeling of the two sleds I feel the etec is going to have great power.
My Pro has 190 miles on it and is broken in, down a trail from a rolling start the pro will go by the etec at this time. BUT, I was told that the etec has 2 stages of break in. First 10 gallons of gas the sled will only push out 140 hp
the second 10 gallons the sled will produce 150 hp. When you have finished the 20 gallons then the etec will produce 160 hp.
Now this sled was on its first time out. When these etec's get fully broken in I have a feeling that the etec will walk away from my Pro on the trail.
As for boondocking I would like to ride the etec with the sway bar taken off. and then tell you what I think.
I thought that Ski doo was addressing the side hill issue with the new front end for 2011???
I just went back to a polaris this year and for the last 12 years I have been on Doos and Yamaha's
I truly believe that the Pro will be the best for my style of riding for this year, but I am waiting to try an etec that has been broken in and the sway bar off.
There are no bad sleds anymore as far as I see.

skidoo did address their sidehilling issue, the front end is now 35 inches wide to get it to roll over, the mags said it worked pretty good. they rave on how the skidoo climbs but i wonder if you put a 16 inch wide track on a poo or cat if it wouldn't climb right past the xp and side hill as well. i rode an xp summit for 2 years, my IQ assault handled better in every instance of snow and riding except for straight up a hill. i expect my pro will out perform my iq and the power will be there.

for me the 36 inch stance the etec has now currently is to narrow, i also have a 08 xp and love the stable felling, of the 40 inch, i have never had any issues with side hilling and carving, but i know of guys that have, so i think this is why its getting all the good media

i drove a tdragon last year and after the first pull on the hill i swaped back, i have never seen anything so tippy and unstable...... the etec gives me that feeling, but not as bad

all my sleds in the past i have removed the sway bar and tightened up shocks in the front to the max, so for the etec, i widened the skis last night to 38inches by swaping spacers and will try, i have heard this works better from other guys, i can always remove the swaybar after
