Doesn't seem like much traffic in the Oregon forum, so I hope no one minds me putting this here. Brother moved out to Oregon (15 min north west of bend?) a few years ago and has been pestering me to go out riding. decided to go early this winter and have a few Q's. can we find good snow within 2 hours of bend? What's with the snow parks, can we ride anywhere we want on public land off trail? are rentals readily available? Any other info would help. Thanks in advance.

Your brother must live in redmond. I live in bend. Riding less then 20 miles from my house, your brother could be on the snow in about 30 miles if he knows where to go. Riding around here is great, not lots of wide open bowls here in central oregon but great boondocking and tree riding. A two hour drive in any direction gives you TON's of options for riding, some great bowl riding to be had at diamond lake/mt bailey. You can ride anywhere except wilderness and watershed areas, both of which are clearly marked normally and always on maps and some non-motorized sections on some peaks for skiers. Yes there are rentals, elk lake, diamond lake, peak performance and I forget the companys name out of Wanoga snowpark but yes, rentals are no problem. Thousands of miles of trails throughout the state if your into that. Check the oregon forum in the fall, it will pick up, along with sledspace.com. Watch both for snow condition updates in the early season. We can normally ride in Nov a bit but the riding normally picks up around xmas.

Twostroke - Thanks for the info. Think you're right about the Redmond thing? Know he was renting in Bend but just got a killer deal on some ritzy titzy place out of town a ways and moved. Don't think he's knows the area real well yet but he's got a neighbor that sounds like a great guy and would take us out. again, thanks
