Opinions on spare/girlfriend mtn sled.

just make sure it has electric start

Any of the late model 600 or 700cc machines would probably be fine- just buy the one that is the best deal you can find and make sure it has electric start. My wife at 95lb has a bit of trouble pulling over most machines. Having that button may save you from having to ride over to pull the string for her.

Quoted from Escape Time:

m**** is,keep the wife off your stuff or it's going to get costly, because she'll want what you have.........just my thoughts...LOL..ET.

I agree Escape Time, The RMK my wife has was one I purchased for myself. It was piped and had other bolt-ons as I got it used. I towed it home, she saw it, said it was hers since it was a cool one. I had to go out the next week and buy another one for myself. Funny how that works.

RMK6. The M6 might handle a little better in the snow, but on bumpy trails, she'll be miserable. The RMK6 is the best for keeping a girl happy on a bumpy trail.

6 and 7 M series are really great sleds, easy to ride and seem to be super dependable. (I ride an M7 so I'm a little partial) I know some gals who came off older sleds and ride the M's now and it has totally boosted their confidence. The 6 and 7 Polaris is also another really great option too very nimble and great suspensions! I would stay in the 153 - 155 track length, it will help in the deep (less stuck frustrations for you and her).

Just my .02 cents hope it helps!! Let us know what you end up with!!!!

which sled for the wife/girlfriend

We had a 2000 500 powder special for the wifey it was ok. But I wanted to get her a newer sled.
Last year we got her a new M6 and we also picked up an 04 sabercat 600 late in the season as a back-up. Kind of a luxury short track
She likes the m6 on deep snow days but likes the sabercat for everything else. She weighes about 120 and that thing really gets around pretty good with her on it. She needs to poach tracks in powder but thats ok. I think long Mtn sleds might be a little intimidating for women at first but the wifey does great on it now. I will say this, the sled (polaris,yamaha,ski-doodoo or A/C) suspension needs to be set up for the different weight rider. It only takes a minute. It goes a long way making the sled more managble for a woman who may not ride as much or may ride all together different than you. Hope that helps

My wife likes her IQ RMK 900. In her learning years we rented the M-7, Viper mtn, RMK 800, and she rode my lightened RX-1mtn.

The 900 IQ was a challenge for her the first season. But, with some taller bars, a Boss seat, Slp can and some differents skis; it got alot easier for her to handle it in the fluff. It's still a little heavy for her in some situations but there's still room for more weight to come off also.

If I was looking for a sled for her this year (based from her experience when buying the '05 900); I would probably buy the Dragon 700 or Dragon 800 with the 153" track.

If you are going to keep it stock I would go with a 700 dragon. As an out of the box sled it has good bottom end, turns good, has reverse, and has good suspension. It is always easier to have enough power to apply it when you need it vs having to ride it hard to make it go where you want. I ride an m7 (which I prefer to the dragon) but I think the dragon is a better sled for the wife. You can also have fun on it as a back up sled.

I brought my (now ex) girlfriend up from Texas two winters ago to go riding in Wyoming with me over spring break ...

She took to my parents 06' 600 RMK's like a duck to water .... It took her about a day before you saw her trying to lean the sled over and carve with it, etc ... the hills still kinda freaked her out if they were very big at all, but considering she was from Texas and had rarley ever seen snow and the first time I put her on a sled was in the dark in wyoming right after we pulled in she did remarkably well.

She definatley liked the 06' 600 HO's better than my 99' 700 ...

I'd say try to pick up an 06'+ 600 RMK with the 144.

I have the spare sled 05 800 151 i just need someone to ride it. Women are good on 800's the weight difference ain't that much. That way when the crank breaks you have something good to ride;) You also have a good spare aswell:D

Thanks for all the input. I'm going to really start pricing some of the above mentioned sleds. I did see a holdover 07 600 rmk 155 the other day for 7400 but I really hate to pay that much for a spare sled. Looks like dragon 700's are going for around 8K used. Think I saw a commercial the other day with sasquatch buying a holdover M6 for 7K. Keep the advice coming! What changes were made from 06-07-08 rmk 600's? According to polaris's website, the 08 gained weight over the 07.

if you plan to ride this sled as a back up i wouldnt go any smaller then a 700 the m7 is a nice sled for a girl but has no reverse and is a little weak on the bottom end. i personal would look for a 700 dragon

Not sure about the reliability part but I'm sure she would love the vibs of the 900 RMK. I would look at the 600 RMK it's a sweet little sled.

LOL, thats funny!

I would get here a 06 600 or 700 rmk. They are great sleds and they will keep up with anything. You can not go wrong! I would get her a 06 over an 07 thoe. Mostly because girls like color and all of the wemon in my family don't like the looks of the 07's and they all say that my 06 is way nicer looking. Second, because if she doesn't like it, you have a $4000 sled sitting around instead of a $8000 sled sitting around. Lastly, not all relation ships last for ever, and spending $4000 more on the same sled with a slightly longer track, skinneyer seat, and a diferent color is not worth it. Yeah the 07 is like 30 ponds lighter, but is it worth $4000?

Especually since she cna adjust the handel bars  Thats what sold me!!!!!!!!!!!!! JK

I bought my wife a 03 RMK 800. She was not really experienced but she does relly well at only using enough throttle she is confortable with. She also has enough throttle to be able to keep up with us when we are boondocking in the powder. Used to have her on a smaller sled but then she was always getting stuck in the powder which did not make her happy. She really likes this sled. This will be her third season on it now. Plus it makes a great back up sled for me if I need it.
