Opinions on 2 wheel kit....

I was looking at getting a new sled, but if I don't want to do a few things to help me with my '06. What are your opinions on the 2 wheel (inside) kit? I love my 151" track, but would like it to be a bit easier to carve on a side hill, especially on the spring snow. I do ok, just don't have the weight to hold it up. ;) Thanks in advance for all the opinions and suggestions.

Do a smittys800 kit to move wheels to the inside and remove the swaybar, make sure skis are on the narrow setting,a handle bar riser might help also.

Thank you, I do have the swaybar out, the narrow setting on the ski's, lightweight A-Arms and a 2" riser. My dealer put all this in/on before I picked it up in '06, as he knows my size and riding style....but I have lost a ton of weight since this and that seems to be a problem now...haha

I have heard many conflicting story's on the 2 wheel kit some say it helps some say it does not, just looks cool.....I suppose it is depending completely on the rider, and I may not know until I try it if it will work for me. Thanks for the replies and please keep them coming!!

have a friend that just put one one, and swears the thing makes sidehilling much easier to hold when you hit little ridges in the hill that wanna kick you off. i am about the go install my converted stock axle that i made 2 wheel inside kit, i love being in highschool just because i have acess to a lathe. it took maybe an hour, plus time to take parts home a remeasure. i will get pics up when im done, a ride report after saturday. they also look really nice on the DOO's with the wider track, you can barely see the wheels.

Yes, it made it easier to sidehill, but what I really notice is how much snow the outside 2" of the track throws up onto the hyfaxes, used to get hard chunks after they were packed by the wheel, no more, just soft snow that ends up clear up past the front pivot!

i couldnt disagree more with pinedunderdoo. the functionality of the inside mounting made a huge difference for me and my 162 all the way around. sidehilling, boondocking so much better. the flex in the track gives way to so much better traction. jay says run the stock wheels but he forgets that his sled has 8" stock wheels. bigger wheels help the track rotate with more efficiency. so go with some bigger wheels 8" are good improvement, 9" are better, 10" might be unnecessary.

move them inside and go bigger in the wheels. do it last week.

2 wheel axle

I put smittys 2 wheel offset kit with 9 inch wheels, snow melted and havent got a chance to ride with it on- smitty is a good guy to deal with very helpful and products looks great and a breeze to install

I have been running inboard wheels on my sleds for 7 seasons now, Comparing side to side with my friend's sled who has stock setup, NOTHING DIFFERENT handling wise.

It is all about the look you want.

It does not make the track bend much easier, try collapsing the track along the radius, it does not bend easy at all. If the track is bending along the full length of the track, that little 3 inch spot in the end will not make much of a difference. We are talking about 700 to 800 pounds, more or less.

And as for the bigger wheels, More bling too, it does not free any noticable lost power either. IMHO Take a fish scale and do the comparison. I would like to see the difference.

Inside wheel kit didn't work for me

I sold my 07 Summit and got a recently bought holdover XP. Before I rode it I put on the inside wheel axle with the stock wheels. On my second spring ride at mile 45 I went over a roller on the ridge, I came down hard, but not that hard. It poped the bearing out of the wheel and bent the new axle. A few days ago I switched back to stock and rode it today, honestly I don't think I can tell the difference with or without the wheel kit. I am more concerned about not getting stranded from a bent axle and wheel. I am sticking with stock 3 wheels.

My experiance may of been rare but I just didn't see enough gain to offset the problems that I have experianced. I am hoping I can return the kit given that it broke after 45 miles. I was able to tweak things enough to get back.

3 rides on the new sled, seems super dialed, put a goldfinger on yesterday, kind of a pain to install. Running 377 belts, seems hot under the hood but no problems, no melted belt and no power loss.
