Open 2-place security ? Ideas ?

I was curious what folks do for security. I was going to add places to chain/cable to.

I know......buy a enclosed........

But for the time being, what do you guys do............?

I'm talking for those quick night stays at a hotel, buddies place, etc ?

get the best quality chain you can, cable locks also work. Although when you get it locked down, they will take the trailer and the truck. There is a locating device The Snitch you can try, although it works on cell phone tech and mountain area's the reception is poor. A motion sensor may work the best with a bad *** alarm and a ball bat.

We used to take a chain run it through the rear suspensions then under the trailer through axle in a big loop around the whole trailer. My theory is always just making it more difficult hopefully theyll move on to something else and have good insurance.

Skip the chain and get a good cable. I have bolt cutter that can snap just about any chain in 2 seconds. cable is a whole different beast. Then lock the cable ends and pad lock in an area that is hard to get bolt cutters to. Inside the rear skid works well.

Those are some good ideas, thanks

I am a big fan of cables too...........

And its really all about making it harder.......If they want it bad enough........its gone !

Buy the locking pin for the hitch. Or put a small paddle lock thru the hole in the pin.

Weld the threads/nut off the ball to the reciever.

Put a paddle lock thru the trailer latch.

I have seen so many trailers, that have just the lock on the latch on the trailer. Will not do to much if the reciever is not locked. They could just remove the pin and slide the reciver into there hitch.

Has anyone ever experienced a loss with Superclamps?

I know they are lockable, but is the plastic tough enough to stand up to mild attempts?

The way I look at it, if somebody wants it, they are going to take it, I'm just thinking of ideas for keeping the honest guy honest...:beer;:beer;

Those were some of the first things I did ! I dont own a non locking hitch pin!

My security chains are always locked too .

Leave the keys in the sled for security that they will enjoy their new sled as much as you did hehe :D:D

I know a guy that made a couple welded in full width 1 front 1 rear aluminum cross bars with welded d rings through the floor of the trailer to lock down sleds

He takes one of those big kryponite cable locks on each sled and gets it through as much stuff as possible a arms shocks skis ect.

on the rear goes through the tracks rails ect.

Basically make it as hard as possible to detur them

Never heard this to be a problem especially with Revs and Artic Cats..........no one wants them. Heck, in places like West, guys just park 'em out in the open like parking a car and call it a night.

One possible deterant is to back the trailer up to the parking lot fence or hotel wall. Leave trailer connected to your rig and go with reciever lock and trailer latch lock. Try to find backstop that is very visable and with excellent lighting. Cables are good if cant find a good backstop but most bolt cutters cut through them easily.

I bought a cable lock with an attached alarm system. If you try to jimmy the lock or cut the cable a fricken ear piercing alarm goes off. I put the cable through the sliders and tracks on both sleds and down through two holes drilled in the floor of the trailer. Any padlock will get cut unless you put a bell around them. Same with most chains. If they want them bad enough they'll get em no matter what you do. One word....INSURANCE!

Honest guys won't even give your stuff a first look, unlocked or not - ok, REALLY honest guys might notice it's unlocked and try and find you and tell you to lock it up, but all your trying do is deter are the LAZY NO GOOD SUM BEOTCH THIEVES!

chain your big dog to the trailer;)- but don't let him eat the seats:eek:-:D:beer;lol

I welded a mount to each side of the trailer then made a cross beam that goes through the mount from the passenger side, slides through the swingarms and into the mount on the other side then lock it in with a pad lock. It is impossible to get the sleds off without cutting something with a torch or something.

Really, what bolt cutters are your referring to?

a dewalt battery sawsall will cut thru a cable at the crimp like butter...for hi security gates we use a really good security chain that foils most bolt cutters shy of the biggest ones made...
