OPEC dead? What's this do to the consumer?

hold all cards we have a winner folks!!!!

Wind power is and will have to be so heavily govt susidized that it will make "cheap" hydro power int he northwest look spendy. Hell it will make the Farm Bill look like nothing.

Just remember that the price of a kW/hr of electricity doesn't take into account all the social and societal costs.... I am all for diversified electricity generation.... though it also needs to be coupled with consumer real time pricing, and increased efficiency measures. The last is easily necessitated by a high electricity price..

i don't know if it is due to the opec thing or not, but our fuel supplier just called to let us know fuel is going up 30 plus cents over the weekend.
that happened up here already. went up $.13/litre or roughly $.50/gallon over night!!!!!!! they "say" it's because of hurricane ike. but last time i checked, on the news last night, the price of oil/barrell is WAAAAAAY down from, but the pump price is now going up again???????????????

Oil will always be necessary for certain commodities, but the bulk of it can be replaced. Someday a majority will get a brain and support proven alternatives, wind, solar and yes even nuclear. Don't give me any cost B.S., take the 10 billion per month blowing holes in the dirt of Iraq and apply it to something with a long term return.

Certain commodities?

Are you kidding me? Ever heard of plastic? It is petrochemically based!

Look around the room you are sitting in. I am at the moment in my office and I see almost everything made out of plastic.........

Sorry to burst your bubble but I don't nor have I ever taken meds. I think Wade covered the windfarm problems so I will leave that there. As for Texas isn't that where T Boone Pickens is from and isn't he pushing windfarms, I wonder how much he is sucking off the trough from your taxmoney for his subsidies, also you might look at the other folks involved in his little windfarm program, shall I point out Nancy Pelosi, follow the money and you will find a democrat every time, especially Al Gore. Go back to your meds. Swampy:D:D:cool:

Mmmm... Didn't say a few oil wells ruin the wilderness. Windfarm towers have the approximate look of the 50 trillion power poles dotting the country so no change there.
General Electric, one of the few remaining large successful companies left in America see the future in wind power. A large portion of Texas is now powered by wind. And... solar is not going to be stopped. You are part of our past and need to up the medication.

Have you looked at your bill lately, cause here on my side of the state a good chunk of each and every bill goes to the state and the feds to offset these "societal costs" I'm sure the gov is spending our money well to fix these "problems."

I don't think the bill reflects all the social and societal benefits either (but you don't hear things like that from the profs in college now do you), like the fact that our society is energy based, take it away and see what happens..

But Ruffy, if gas had all the social costs embedded within it, the poor people would have to pay their share. This way, we can just tax the rich, and let them pay the social costs.
