I'm trying to get my wife into sledding.. she wants to learn, she's been out twice with me, she took the ProX as it's the "better" sled.. she crashed it twice so she rode the RMK home, she likes it better because it's more stable and you actually have to want to press the throttle, but it's still too much sled for her.. she jokes about how she wants to learn in a big empty field on a sled that won't leave her standing there after she hits the throttle.

Hense why my RMK is for sale to get a "slower" sled. She does have good gear.. almost better than mine.. but I go out almost every night.. well this year and last it's more like twice a week.

So in other words, don't put her on my 900 RMK then take her out, get her stranded, have to tow it back, etc? LOL ....

HAhahahahahahaha......

Been there! Was out of riding for several years, and when I met my current fiance he said he had an extra sled and I could go with him. We hadn't started dating yet. That extra sled was a 900 that had already blown a few times. He took me into one of the toughest places we ride, after I told him I wasn't a great rider and hadn't been on a sled in years. Even though I wrecked and rolled it over me all day, I went with him again. Second time the sled quit, had to be left, and then was stolen. Many girls would have quit after that first ride from h***, but I was hooked. And I got a new sled for Xmas!

I think if you find a girl with the right attitude and drive, it doesn't matter if she sleds because she will be hooked when she tries it! But definitely try to hook up with new groups of riders or meet people in parking lots. Those little friendships can lead to them knowing someone you might like. And MX riders make the switch to sledding pretty easily it seems. Same with snowboarders. Lots of snowboarders get sleds to get into the backcountry, then end up liking sledding better. A snowboarder already likes the snow and likes winter, probably has decent winter gear, and more than likely is the fun fearless type. Great start for a sledder!

This has been really interesting and entertaining to read! I love that you guys are trying to find girls that are interested in the sport to ride with. I think there are just as many girls that are in the same situation. i am recently divorced and have found myself wondering who I am gonna ride with this year.. Funny thing is my ex has said the same thing. Only difference, he has the truck and the sled deck. He can just load up and go. Me I have to hitch a ride, or go by a truck and deck.. Almost all my friends ride so I am still riding but it's just not the same. I think it's awesome that you guys want your ladies to experience the same things that make you happy. In time you will find that lady that does, or understands that it's your passion. Good luck!! Oh and Crown is definately a good thing!!

As a relatively new lady snowmobiler, here's my two cents:

You're more likely to create a woman snowmobiler than meet one. Find a woman who is already inclined to do outdoor sports and take her out.

Take her out the first time during good weather on good snow, wearing good gear and on a good sled. Women and kids need to have a good experience the first time out or they may never want to do it again. My first ride I got nothing but stuck on an old sled in sloppy wet snow in horrid light. I didn't ride again for 5 years.

The other thing I'll say is if you have an old sled and a new sled, put HER on the new sled. The new chassis are so much better than the old ones that it makes a huge difference in effort and enjoyment. Ride the sled you don't want to ride, in other words, and let HER ride the sled you would prefer to ride.

If you're planning a day ride, take some munchies. A lot of women need to fuel up every few hours to keep their energy levels up. I know many guys that will go all day without eating, but most of the women I know need to have a snack or their blood sugar will crash.

If she has a good time on her first ride, you may have a sledder for life.

Good luck! :)

this is so true...If she has a good time on her first ride, you may have a sledder for life.

Heh I did that (as I said above and after I typed all this just realized).. and she crashed it twice :P

She ended up prefering the older sled... asside from that it was piped(aka really freaking loud).

So I would say start off that way, then offer to switch after a little bit to see which one she likes better.. maybe trade off a couple times then let her ride which one she likes better.

Also if you have a "mild" sled and a Turbo'd liter sled.. maybe not start her on the blink and you're dead sled.. find a nice open field get her used to the throttle on the mild sled(even if the sled sucks) then offer to let her try the better one...

I lucked out actually even though she started on the "faster/better" sled it's got smaller lugs so less traction when she accidentally blipped the throttle, it mainly just spun the track much like you'd spin the tires on a car..

I'll ride with ya'!:D (ummmm, where do you live?)...

Oh and Crown is definately a good thing!!

...that is, as long as your BUYING!;):beer;

Lucky for me, I was born into a sledding family. When I met my husband, he had never touched a sled. That scared me a bit as I was not about to give it up for any man. I took him without my family, just me and him the first few times and it was a disaster. He was stuck non-stop. He finally got the hang of it and fell in love with it. Now that I have four kids, I'm wishing I never would have got him hooked. It sure would have been nice to leave him home with the kids while I rode all day :)

hey you washington dudes might want to pack PENDELTON beacause quite a few of us gals ridin sleds are cowgirls & we like the goooood stuff (crown is good too):D

Ooooh, won't be drinkin that anytime soon. Smell still reminds me of my last Pendleton trip, bottle of Pendleton, and lots of partying, at least what I remember and have pictures of..... :eek:

Thanks for the invite.. I live in Washington. What's this. ...that is, as long as your BUYING! I'll buy...for me... What would you be drinkin?? :D:beer;

What'll I be drinkin?.... NOTHING!!!:eek: I have a hard enough time keeping it together sober! (check out the California/Nevada section: Elko riders thread: last 6 posts or so:confused:) When I said "buying"... I meant FUEL! LOL (and maybe dinner).

I hope that if there is any hookin' up due to this thread we'll get to hear the success story later on. NOT details.... lol

There is tons of great advice in this thread! if I would have followed it, my wife would have become a better rider sooner rather than later. In the past my wife and I rode with other married couples and we kinda wife swapped. (let me explain) I would ride behind/take care of/watch out for buddies wife and help her get unstuck and he would do the same for my wife... The girls started performing better right off the start (not totally sure why) and then when they did need help us guys were way easier on the then if it was our spouse. Sounds real screwed up but all in all it made for a more enjoyable trip.

As far as meeting Female sledders, that's a tough one. Let's face it, how many women all the sudden decide to go buy a sled and take up the sport all on their own. Then how many have the resourses (Truck/trailer) to get to the hills were you ride. As already mentioned I feel that you would have a better chance turning an outdoor girl into a sledder. Maybe spend some time at a local ski hill and meet some women there, then invite them on a sled trip with some friends.... Once again Just my two cents.

Maybe the gals will confirm or reject my theory here... for whatever reason, no matter how much you show love,respect,pride,patience,support,etc... women seem to have issues performing in front of the old man. My "ex's" favorite sport was softball. She played high school and was even president of the locals womens league... and I was proud of her, LOVED to go watch her play and cheer her on. She told me not to come to her games, that me watching made her nervous. Sounds like your wife there "fatguy"? Maybe alot of women are that way? Good job for finding a solution!
