ok cummins guys i need help!!!!

i got a 80's ford with a 90 cummins in it
all ford wiring is still there. not much cummins wireing but a wad of wires hanging off the driver side.

it runs fine but i need the glow plugs or heat grid what ever its called hooked up, any one help with that? what wires is it and what do i do with them.

on a side note i would like to hook up the temp gauge and oil gauge any ideas on that too?

any help would be great.

Contrary to popular belief, spawned from the actual necessity of glow-plugs in the indirect-injection Ford/Internationals, and some others, the grid-heaters on a Cummins do absolutely nothing to aid in cold-weather starting.

Their sole purpose is to reduce cold-start emissions.

What little heat they might provide to the intake air is quickly over-ridden by the vast amount of current-draw on the battery(s), at a time when they need current the most.

I have FOUR 1st Gen. Cummins trucks in my drive and NOT ONE of them has the grid-heaters connected.

If anything, they start better in cold weather without them.
 
Um maybe with a bottle of ether(poor head gasket) but I guarantee that they do not start better or for that matter, at all without it when it gets cold.
 
thanks thats kinda what i wanted to hear. my truck is siting in a 50f shop for 3 days and does not want to start with out eather. so now i guess ill go work on hooking up the heatergrids.
 
My 02 Dodge Cummins won't start worth a sh#t at -20 without using the heater, even when plugged in. IIIFFF you can get it to fire without the heaters it runs like the motor is going to jump right out of the thing for at least 30 seconds or more. This can't be good as opposed to firing it up under the same conditions, but using the heaters and it just purrs.:beer;:D
 
I put a 93 cummins in my 86 chevy. I took the dodge relays and went to a cheap horn button threw a switched hot lead run heater by hand (a 8 count 1st time 5 the next) ive been able to start mine as cold as -20 with being pluged in (hunting season).
as for as the the other find the ford leads for the oil and cut.(Long) solder the sender leads out of the dodge .use the ford temp sending unit , pluge the dodge and move it to the front of the block next to the thermostat put plug out thread in temp will be a hotter read but closer to real.Did you use the dodge alt. or the ford?if not to late keep the ford alt. and adapt to dodge location it will save a big pain in the neck!.have the dodge pully pulled off the dodge alt and installed on to the ford one(if it is not already a serpiten(sp) belt).
i have 300,000 on the cummins i can start it without heaters as low as 12 to 15 deg.
below 0 it takes 2 to 3 cycles with the heater to start it loud and smokey but it do run.

i got it fixed it starts great now. the moron had the pump wire not on while cranking so that makes it a little hard to start. but now it starts fine. now i want to hook up the tach, any ideas on that?
