Oil burners

Anybody use a waste oil burner to heat their shop.
What is the cons on them?
I have lots of free oil.
Any brands better than others?
Thanks

i have a lanair free standing 150k btu tank/stand combo and a 350k btu omni waste oil boiler, both will burn from diesel to 90w, keep your filters clean and clean out the chamber every three months and no issues, keep away from unknown sources or contaminated oil (antifreeze, water etc.) no worries, in my shop one works as a backup if the other has issues

We've used one for about ten years as the main heating source. It works great. Like he said watch where you get the oil from synthetics can throw the burners for a loop. Get on a good maintanence program. $175 a year that is well spent.

well, I run it in MY dodge:D 50% to 80% depending on temp; same rules as in a shop- keep an extra filter handy, and watch out for antifreeze...

98 cummins w/ mechanical pump. my 6.2 chebby eats it, but it messes with the glow plugs.

have burned about 300 gal. so far.

I too have lanair but there are also others that are good. I bought the first one in 98 and the second in 02 one is a 260,000 btu and the other is a 140,000 they take a little work now and than but are worthit. I just went through the heet exchangers in both last year they needed some cracks welded up and I replaced some plates it was in house so I maybe had 1500 in all the work. One thing dont just think they will allways work Have a backup source of heet and also dont leave them turned on and not running for long the guns on the lanair have the oil heater in thegus so they tend to get gumed up from nonuse when turned on and not running

the only problem i se with those is that they are not ULl listed, make sure that your insurence company goes along with it.
