"OE Rentals" Anyone try this?

I found this site call oerentals.com They rent beacons, probes, airbags, etc. It's pretty reasonable. Like $40 a week for a beacon and $55 for a float throttle bag (not a filled canister, but that would be pretty reasonable to fill). For people that only mountain ride a few times a year I thought this was pretty cool. This way you always new gear for a few hundred dollars a year, its pretty cheap life insurance. Let me know if anyone else has tried this and their experience. Thanks

Training

The biggest problem I have with this is the time people spend training with any beacon. I am a member of the local Mt Rescue and we spend many hours each fall training with our beacons. If someone is to rent one, they just strap is on and say "I'm good to go", yet have no knowledge on how that beacon will react in different conditions. I personally have two beacons, and practice with them both. The more time you spend with one beacon, you will get to know the ins and outs of how it is going to react with single burials and also with multiple burials.

Remember that just because someone is wearing a beacon, they might not know how to use it and might not be able to find you in the time you need to be rescued.

Be safe out there. If I train all winter and never have to pull someone out of a slide, that will be time well spent.

Hey,

I am the owner of oerentals.com (and oeunlimited.com), have been a member for a bit now. Please let me know if I can answer any questions - but of course, real feedback from anyone here who have used us is absolutely welcome and encouraged.

That is a very valid concern, and we certainly encourage anyone renting to carefully read the manual and spend some time practicing and getting to know the equipment.

In the end, we are at least hoping to encourage people who would just skip taking a beacon (or shovel, probe, etc) along altogether due to the cost, to at least reconsider a less expensive option. Or for those that have practiced and are familiar but do not want to purchase one for a once a year trip, etc.
