Ok im sure this topic has been talked about lots, I just cant find a forum, if you have a link to a good one link it here.
My 2007 M8 is decently modded, nothing to crazy, head, porting, piping, intake, reeds, ect. Ive been running straight 91 with no obvious issues that I can see but im about to rebuild my engine and want to run this thing right. Not to keen on having to go buy race gav, Av, anything like that as its nice to be able to go to any gas station and just fill up. Iv heard octane booster isnt good for your machine, this coming from the motocross world, what are you guys thoughts on octane booster? Safe or not? And does it actually do anything?

And neither mentions the one thing that matters in this conversation.

If you've been running 91, and not had any det so far, DO NOT ADD OCTANE, IT WILL COST YOU HORSEPOWER.

Run the lowest octane you can for the motor you have. If you haven't ben seeing det with it set up the way it is, adding octane is wasting money & power. More octane will cost you bottom end.

Higher octane isn't "better" fuel, it's worse, UNLESS you actually NEED it. If you have a motor built for 87, run 87, if it's built for 91, run 91.

I have det on only 91...the octane boost kept it from happening but I have since just add two gallons of 111 per tank....

but yep your bang on not using it if not needed..

My old sled was the same as yours but twin piped I was on the edge of det all the time. Learned that the hard way running straight 91 for a trip. After that added 12 oz of torco per tank and never saw det again.... Cheap insurance Imo but just a splash is all I needed

Another option. This is the one I use just because it's bottled easier for adding to gas cans or topping off the tanks. We sold a ton of this at Sturgis last year and I was surprised at the number of people who came back just to tell us that it eliminated the pinging they had, especially at elevation.

They also have a bigger bottle labeled Dominator
