octane boost vs race fuel

Is there much difference in the two, can a person run klotz octane additive instead of race fuel. Lets say like 16 ounces of klotz to 5 gallons of gas and still get the same results as a 50/50 mixture of race fuel and 91 octane gas. I want to just mix some 5 gallon cans and take them with me when I go sleding.

Nope not the same that I've seen. Octane boost make things go boom, well that is on a turbo at least:face-icon-small-win

I think he is talking about the Klot'z octane booster that say's it can turn 92 octane into 114 . There has been some discussion on this product last winter. I'm not a believer in octane booster i think it's just a scam.

Well I just talked to Dustin at Outlaw Motor Sports and he said to run race fuel, octane boost doesnt really do the same thing, so I guess its race fuel for me, thanks for the feedback.

from what I understand, octane booster bumps the octane booster only bumps the octane rating up minimal(like half a point) stay away from it.

I use Torco Mach Accelerator in my turbo sled and have not blown it up yet. You mix 1 quart with 5 gal. of 91 oct. and it'll give you 105. One quart to 10 gal will give you 101 octane. I don't know about the Klotz stuff but the Torco is the real deal, Ken.

There is a huge diff from your gas station BOOSTER compared to Torco (concentrate) not even in the same category.

I am going to try it this year and see how it does I have talked to the short track race car guys in my area and they say it's the real deal. So I am not going to bash it untill I am buying some cly but I figure if those guys have got by with it in some $8+K motors is must be working.

I know Snowy1 was running it in his boosted Nytro last year with great results.

Take a look at this: http://volvospeed.com/Reviews/octane_boosters.html

Click on the small pictures (the top one is torco) Lucas is the only one that performed as advertised, even so, the stuff isn't Jesus in a bottle. Octane improvers may help, but it's not a(n) (engine) savior. If you need higher octane, buy race gas, I will not chance a $1000+ engine rebuild and 2 weeks of riding so I can save a couple dollars a gallon. JMO

In a different forum a guy claimed that adding Xylene (not sure on the ratio) to gas will essentially turn it into high octane fuel. Not sure but maybe someone has additional info on this.

I think that the boosters would be a good alternative from race fuel for the guys that don't need straight 100+.
If you need 105 or higher than don't bother.

I'm going to try the Klotz this season, I only need 94 so I think it might work good for me. Wish all these tests that you guys found had Klotz tested, Lucas looks tempting.

Snow, you’re right on… gas station boosters may keep your 1985 ford 302 from pinging around town, but they don’t do much for high performance boosted engines. We have been using and selling the Torco race fuel concentrate for several years now on nitrous sleds and I can vouch for the fact that it does work. I don’t know that I would replace race gas with it entirely, but in a situation were your mixing race with premium it may be a good alternative. The Torco also comes in leaded or unleaded.

NO, THERE IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE. If that were the case, then why wouldn't race sleds, and race cars, or race dirt bikes with head mod's run just octane booster? Its cheaper, but it's not the same at all.

I agree race gas has it's place if you want over 100 octane but if you want a few extra points why pack around a big barrel of race in the back of your truck on your trips and in your garage.

most octane boost doesn't actually increase the octane of the fuel, but is a flame retardant to slow the burn rate of the gasoline so that it doesn't detonate in a high compression engine....not a substitute for true higher octane in race fuel....that said, there are a couple of true octane boost products out there that will bump the octane of premium pump gas by a couple of points, i stopped using the stuff years ago, and just use race fuel or av gas if it's not too critical

I run a motor that requires 102 octane to survive. I usually mix 94 and 110 at a 50/50 ratio and pack the fuel I need. This spring I went on a 200 mile ride and didn't want to take all of that fuel with me, so I tried this stuff.
http://www.klotzlube.com/storeProdDetails.asp?pi=34

I mixed it at the prescribed dose and came back detonation free. It was much easier to pack 2 one gallon cans than 4 5 gallon cans...

Remember that raising the octane 5 points does not yeild 96 octane from 91 pump gas-it yeilds 91.5 from 91!!! A point is just that, .1 of an increase. It takes 10 points to raise the octane 1 full number. So to get 100 out of 91, it would take an increase of 90 octane points from a booster. Better start buying octane booster by the 55 gal drum if you want it to do any good.

When we are talking a full point it is 1 not .1 or tenth of a point. Same with the other companies when they are saying a point.

When you could buy methyl tertiary butyl ether ( MTBE) over the counter you stood a chance at getting a LEADED fuel up 5 points .

Uneladed fuels DO NOT respond the same as they carry ehtanol.

do as you wish but I would wager you will PAY in the end.
