Nytro not wanting to go into reverse.

This fall I did a few changes on my chaincase and noticed that spring retaining bolt had broken off. I put everything back together and all works fine. Earlier this fall I had it in for some warranty and had them replace that bolt.

I noticed today that it was really hard to put the sled into reverse, and no matter how much I jiggled the handle or moved/rock sled it did not want to go into reverse. After I got it into the garage and onto the lift it would go back into reverse but seemed to be very finicky on handle placement on whether it would actually engage the reverse.

When I would pull back on the lever it would not drop down, felt like it was binding or when you put the chain case back on wrong with out the tongs engaged into the gear.

I am wondering if the drive chain is to tight?

What else would cause this.

Never in 2000k have I had it not go into reverse with minimal effort.

Mine seemed to be doin the same thing as this the other day and i just had to spray some lube on the linkage and spring, it was just getting gummed up from alittle bit of surface rust, i dunno but it fixed my problem.

So last time someone was in the chaincase it was the dealer replacing that bolt? May have to go through it and make sure everything was done right.

After I went through it was fine. After the dealer has been through it seems to be stuborn to go into reverse. I will try to gauge how tight the chain is and see if that makes any difference. Other wise I will tackle the job of tearing it apart..........again sigh:mad:

Check the little bracket that the reverse shift rod hooks to on the chaincase. Mine got a little bend in it and made it very hard to get into reverse. I just had to let the linkage out 2 turns and it went in much easier. Don't ask me how that little bracket got bent I don't know. I have torn and put together that chaincase on a Nytro over 10 times. If it goes into reverse there is nothing internal that would be messed up. Either the reverse assembly hooks the reverse assembly gear or it doesn't.

Believe it or not there is a procedure for setting up the reverse rod correctly. Here you go.

Adjustment steps:
• Move the shift lever to the “FWD.” position.
• Loosen the locknuts 2.
• Turn the shift rod 1 so that shift rod free play is
0 mm (in direction where a can be shortened
appropriately) and then turn back the shift rod
1/2 turns.
• Tighten the locknuts.

Roger that, I will check the linkage. Maybe for some asinine reason the dealer took the linkage apart? I always just unbolt it so that everything should be in order when you hook it back up.

Another reason why I prefer to do my own work. Only 1 person to blame then hehe

Had it on the lift today, wd40 every part of the linkage and double checked my chain tension. Looks like it was binding a bit where the reverse handle pulls out on. Tested it and it seems to be fine now.

I have this same problem, but I think my lift has pushed up the metal below the chaincase causing some interference, you might want to check and see if this is the case??? My sled is still in storage but I had this problem last year. I haven't fixed it yet. let me know what you find?

After wd 40 all the moving linkage parts it seems to be working fine now.

Shrug........not one trouble last year.

I've seen the same problem with my wife's Apex and previous sled with reverse after putting on a new belt. The new belt caused the clutches to engage just enough that it put tension on the chain... shimmed the clutch for the new belt and all was fine.

I'm serious!!!!! I got rid of all that extra crap. Took the parts out of a brand new 08 sitting on the showroom floor. Gave them my reverse parts in exchange.

ditto ^ That reverse sucked on my sled.. Although on another one in the group still works good, but he rides like a girl!!
