Well what a christmas gift...got my kit today just in time to install it for the first of the year. Un packed it all and am browsing the instructions and I see they recommend yanking the engine totally. I'm sure I read somewhere (0007) said you dont have to do this. I hear the cam chain tightener is tough to get at?? Any first hand knowledge on this and any other tips?? thanks guys...cant wait to pull the triger:)

Done a few, we looked at rocking the motor forward to save pulling it out, but for the extra couple of bolts just pulled it. Either way works, I don't think there's much in it. The end result will be a big smile.

I hope thats not the case mine should be here by friday, but I don,t want pull the motor, I have pulled everything apart except the head I haven,t pulled it yet, plan on doing that wednesday. so I guess I will find out then. I want to have everything ready when the kit gets here.

For the guys that unload at 9,000' and ride at 10,000' I wouldn't go the headshim route. For us guy's that ride at 6,000 or so the headshim saves us a huge fuel bill.

15lbs on 92 is allot don't you think??? I know I would never trust our gas stations.

How many lbs of boost does it take to recover the compreshion loss 2???

at 10,000 ft. you would need to run 100 octane for 14 lbs with no shim, and we unload at about 7500. and from what I here the throttle response with the shim is very good still, so its worth it for the safety margin. and I do take trips and ride at 4000 to 8000 ft. and I am sure I will be turning it up to 16 to 18lbs. so I would rather not have to run strait race fuel all the time, if I need more I will add some nitrous.

will out tearing the sled apart getting ready for when the turbo gets here, and it looks like the motor has to come out, I had heard this was a much easier turbo install than previous models, I don,t think so if you have to strip the sled to the bulk head just to put a head shim in. not to impressed with yamaha,s engineering on this set up, looks like the water pump housing has to come off to clear the bulk head and possibly the mag cover any body comfirm this, do I need to buy new gaskets.

I just removed the long lower engine mount bolt on the exhaust side of the engine, pulled the engine forward and used a small block of wood to hold the engine forward. The timing chain tightener is still a pain to get at but is possible. The other thing in the way is the engine coolant hose mount on the intake side of the engine to the lower right, it will want to rub the frame as you pull the engine forward. I have done two nytros' this way and know of others that have also. Athough if you have the means removing the engine that would be the best. I did not leave those pieces of wood in for long, a small piece of 2 by 4 fits tight, and leaves room to work.

Just pull the motor, it is way easier than you think. Unless you have a engine hoist, you will need some help. A floor jack works well under the motor. Only 11 bolts hold the whole front suspension support on to the bulkhead.

Picking up Nyto Thursday. Is there any snow in Rubies?

I haven,t been up there sense this last storm but I don,t think there is much yet, could not even get off the road befor this last storm, and you know how much it takes to cover the rocks. so I am not in a big hurry to get the turbo on, no sense in tearing up front end parts on the rocks.

well couple hours and the engine is out...prolly alot less fightin plus you can see everything...lot of engineering in this baby as the last 4 strokes. few more nights in the garage and she'll be going back together:)
