Nytro Hp upgrades without boost

I know I saw a thread on this or maybe even asked once last spring,, but now that everyone has a whole year to work on these.

What kind of performance upgrades are available without boost?

I'm not interested in a turbo or super.

I'm think if I could get it to an honest 150 or 155 it would be about right.

I agree with you that 150-155 would be good Hp but they also need to be about 490lbs than they would have a great sled. I really do like the Yammi and think they make a nice product, I just do not want to have to add a 5000 dollar turbo to make it run. If they were 155-160hp and under 500lbs I would order one tomorrow as would many others.

I ran a boondocker 40-50 HP shot of nitrous.. Excellent kit adjustable regulator and fuel control box lets you tune your engine for the other mods you might have on it ie pipe etc..

I'll have it in the swap meet soon.. Going to add boost..

I'll check into fundy, I've thought about nitrious but it's a pain to get the bottles filled for me. I think I'd reather send that grand on exhaust and possibly head work.

Just money :)

When done, my Nytro will be near the 450 mark...right now, dry it sits at roughly 480+/- lbs...I have pulled in excess of 70 lbs. off it...(dry weight in crate was 553)

would LOVE to get a few more ponies out of it though...wonder why no one is just tweaking fuel mapping and ignition timing...no doubt there is 10-15 HPO left on the table there...and with the Excell and other exhaust systems, some are claiming 8 HP...

So if we can get a good fuel map (maybe with PowerComander, or RaceBike3 set up) and exhaust sounds like we are close to our 20 HP increase...

dream: Could you post what you have done for mods to get your Nytro down on the LBS? I think everybody here would like to know and also other input would be awesome. Losing the weight is the biggest thing right now. We have the power and the reliabilty.

You betcha (all weighed for accuracy)

Mtn Tamer (Timbersled) rear skid- 38 lbs (includes the drop brackets)
Bark Buster front- 9 lbs.
L/w Battery-9lbs.
l/w exhaust- 10 lbs. (R1's or Yoshi's, or etc.)
misc. other stuff- around 10 lbs.

Nothing cheap (other than the misc. junk pulled off) but it is below the weight of my Rev when it was stock...

will take a pic of it tonight...the mtn tamer on these makes them look really tight!!!

Racin,

have you done any back pressure tests? what do these need? am thinking of playhing with a few different mufflers...

good luck on the 450lbs.. Not saying that u cant get er there, just thats what the diamond S sleds are claming and that is titanium.

Curious as to what misc stuff you removed to loose 10 lbs.

Sway bar
bogie wheels
headlight pod (go to single or double PIAA lights)
footwell brackets
tail light
foam (only ounces in weight, but carries water)
all the stupid reflectors riveted on bumpers
TrailTanker tank is a little lighter as it is not double lined, and you drop two pieces of plastic (nominal stuff but adds up)

Forgot that I had swapped Simmons onto it for a couple pounds
SImmons couple pounds

will see how she goes on boost, and what is worth going after...but the last 20-30 lbs would no doubt get REALLY spendy...but it can go in small increments too...

Airbox is huge on these...
Tail pipe is heavy on these
the oil reservoir is also ridiculous...
pretty much any supportiung bracket is steel and COMPLETELY over done...look at your drop brackets as example...

the oil reservoir is also ridiculous...QUOTE]

FYI...the oil reservoir is made from ultra thin aluminum with a couple of baffles inside and weighs next to nothing. Mine cracked (tree incident!!) and I had to remove it to get it fixed. My opinion is there is no weight to save there.

modsledr

Am not looking for argument about all this...merely sharing ideas...

but the oil reservoir is large if that is all volume of oil, then there is a good chance that most of that volume is not needed...Have heard of several people talking about running these with less oil...but weight is weight...

I think the other elements are on target and if this is not an avenue cool...

Because we have spent so much time on boosted Nytros, the naturally aspirated versions have been unfairly neglected. I have cams finished and pistons coming. We fully expect to be able to have the natural version in the 160-165 range. This is based on the Apex results. Cams are good for 6-8 HP, the exhaust should be good for 10-15 HP, Hi comp pistons 1-2HP, flow porting on the head 7-10 HP. These numbers cannot be stacked on top of each other, as putting them all together will usually take away from one or the other.

I will post as results become available.

Also, based on testing this las weekend, there is a bunch to be had from unrestricting the stock intake system.

Sign me up batman!!!!

I agree. There appears to be about 2/3's as much inlet area in the airbox as there is inlet area at the throttle bodies.

Stock skid - 68.8 lbs
Timbersled - 38.0 lbs = 30.8 lb loss
Stock drop brackets (x2) - 10 lbs
Timbersled Drops (x2) - 1.25 lbs = 8.75 lb loss
stock exahust (and associated 12" steel I-Beam style brackets) -14 lbs
new exaust (and associtated tinfoil brackets) - 3.75 lbs = 10.25 lb loss

So far, I have lost 49.8 lbs, and it has only cost me $2000!

I am running CO's at 50 and there is a VERY noticeable difference in power. I believe that opening up the intake will enhance these gains dramatically. I think the sled would take much more fuel, but with the lack of air, idle and low range suffer from not enough air.
