NWGC Avy Class November 15 and 16

Anyone want to carpool up from the I-90 area? Would be good to get a vehicle and clan together for those that live further out. Let me know!

I tend to do at least one class a year for avy safety. It is good to keep that info fresh in your head.

Update:

Well folks...Saturday is about filled...Thank you! :D

We are going to start looking for Sunday registrations. Or...if you are signed up for Saturday but would be willing to do Sunday, please let us know.

Thanks,
BroT

lets get trained before the big dump--still spots left for both Saturday and Sunday

Just did some counting and we have 5 slots left for Saturday and 16 for Sunday.

SNOWs a coming--get your training early.

I have had three avy courses over the past 4 years. I DO NOT know all there is to know and I definately learn something new every class I take. As AJ stated earlier, last years tragedy should have been a wake up call for all of us. This training is very cheap--about the cost of a pair of gloves. Most of us spend more in our vehicles to get to the snow than this course will cost.
Those of you that have signed up your kids to take the course--good on you! My boy has had two courses now (he's 14) and he can operate his beacon with the best of them. It's those video games. Not (well maybe), but we practice with them a few rides every year.

I hope to see you at the class!

yep yep.... little more then a week left! If you don't take this one, make sure you at least take one this season. Always good to refresh the basics....

See you guys on Saturday... looks like the weather should be good too. Don't forget your gear either.. Probe, Beacon, Shovel are needed for the class.

Later

 What exactly are we going to be digging in

Nothing... it was on the list of stuff to bring. I assume they are just going to talk about them, maybe compare contrast different styles... things to stay away from, weak designs of different types of shovels. That would be my guess, but we will found out soon enough!

Went to the Saturday class.... and it was really good. It is good to get a refresher on the knowledge / things to look for to stay out of an avalanche, but what I really like was the group search scenarios out in the field. You can practice and get good at using a beacon, but correct response / organization of a group and people is just as important. It was good to get some practice with that and see what the best / quickest means of organizing people to find and rescue people caught in an avalanche was.

All of the above and seeing the method utilizing regular beacons for multiple burial scenarios was really really good. The method was simple and quick and just works!

Excellent job by the NWGC for putting this on, and thanks to Micheal for teaching the class. Big thanks to Doug for cooking the burgers, and thanks to all the sponsors for lunch! Thanks again!

I should thank the B's (Brent and Brandy) for letting me hitch a ride with them from Monroe... and the stimulating conversation on the way back.....:D 220z Fosters Draught... Australian for loose lips! lol

Great class, LOTS of good information and a good understanding of how to operate the beacon for the best possible outcome.

I was a little worried that the little Pieps Freeride beacons would not be adequate for a real search for multiple victims but it seems to be pretty darn easy to use and I like the very small size of it.
It doesn't have some of the fancier options as the much more expensive beacons but does the exact same job. I'm impressed! :D

Now for A LOT of practice! I got out of the class exactly what I was hoping to get, a basic knowledge and a good idea of what to do to hone the skills I'll need to be of help when the need arises.
A follow up class on the snow would be nice in the coming weeks (When we actually get some of the white stuff!!)

I finally met a few of folks I've been "Talking" to here on the 4M and what a great bunch of people. My wife and I felt very welcome with the group.
I look forward to riding with y'all.

I'll need an E-Mail addy to send the pictures I took during the day so somebody help me out with that one!

sent you a pm.... you can send them to nwgc@verizon.net and I can put them on here, and then also put them on the nwgc site and photo album page.

Thanks much and it was good to meet you!
