not pulling rpm anymore

My sled used to pull rpm no problem. Now it's down to 7800ish and very inconsistant. My first belt lasted for 800 miles and only has a tiny bit of cord coming out. I broke in a new belt and put 300 miles on it and it's pulling cords pretty bad. Everything looks good in the clutches. I check them and clean them every weekend. I keep a close eye on deflection. It has to be something else.

Clutch alignment?

Mine was off on my 12. Any impacts that could have knocked the motor alignment?

I checked and changed all my clutching around because of a similar rpm issue. Didn't change much. I was riding in a different area and had to fill up at a different shell. It didn't take long to see my 300 rpms back. I thought all shell premium was the same, but I guess the quality can vary from station to station. T/T my dealer and he was not surprised as he' s had a couple of these issues this year. These 800's run best on good non-ethanol priemium 91 octane. Knowing your not getting stale poor quality fuel can be the challenge. Good luck.

Very good point.

We typically always fill up our sleds at the highest vloume gas station in our town. Most all sledders get their fuel there for the same reason. Highest volume usually = less water in the tanks, and freshest blend. One trip this year, we filled at a different brand gas station that also sees quite a bit of volume. Coincidently, two of us on Pro's lost pipe temp sensors that day! Now, was that really a coincidence, or did the fuel have something to do with eating them? Living in Ak, we are lucky in that there is no such thing as ethanol up here so that is not an issue. But still could be an additive that they use at that brand of station? Hard to say. Just starnge the two of us lost them the same day.

Moral is, if and when possible with running high hp tuned to the edge 2 strokes, pick a fuel supply, and stick with that same supplier whenever possible.

Sled bone stock? Broken primary spring or exhaust valves. Mine didn't look bad at all but cleaned them and still got noticeable gain. The primary spring is impossible to spot without taking it apart in most cases I've seen.

Destroyer:

Did you check to see if you have a loose/broken motor mount? Your second belt is telling you a story @ 300 miles. Either your clutches have gotten out of whack(ie. Murph) or your motor may be flexing to one side(motor mount issue).

Let us know how things turn out. Good luck.

Dude, are you not wearing your glasses when you look? It isn't hard to see a broken spring, I know, 'cause I've lost track of how many broken springs I've seen this year.

I broke one spring already. It wasn't hard too see. I'll get the alignment checked. What should a guy look for with those motor mounts? they all look ok.

Re: Motor Mounts

Make sure you don't have any broken mount nuts bouncing around in your belly pan. What I do frequently, is grab my primary clutch with both hands and try to move it up and down and also side to side. Search this forum and look for a post from a few months ago on broken motor mounts on the Pro. Lots of good info.

I was having the same problem and posted the same question. I took the sled into the dealer and they found a broken motor mount in front on the mag side.
