Non boosted Apex vs rev opinions please

I currently have a 07 summit X 800 159 and am thinking about a different sled. I am looking for opinions from people who have rode both the apex and rev. I know the apex will be heavier, but with a few mods can it be made to handle and climb like my summit? I am not interested in putting a turbo on it. Just looking for a 150hp machine that that will do what my summit will. Can I make an apex work or do I have to go XP?

Apex is nothing like a rev. They Nytro is pretty close but way underpowered/crappy suspension/heavy etc. It wont hold a candle to your rev. Now if you boost the apex/nytro that is a different story. But if you want the best bang for your buck and set on new then go with the XP. Really the xp is not much different then your xrs. Same motor, you foot wells are slightly further ahead, marginal weight difference. With the difference spent on a new xp you could BB your xrs and be ahead by a long shot IMO.

I disagree The apex doesn't feel or show its weight unless your on hard pack or crusty snow. It really shines off trail. I spent a little time on the rev chassis and couldn't stand it, apex felt a lot easier to ride. But to say you wont like an apex when getting off the trail common guys :rolleyes:

I agree. Rode a stock apex in 06 for the season until I could afford the turbo. On hard pack it is a bear to throw around, but in the powder it handles amazing. At 165lbs I got such a kick out of people asking how I could throw the sled around and side hill as it is so heavy! After asking them, the usual response was that they had never even tried one! Skis full narrow and a 2" riser makes it so easy to ride in powder and the machine is really well balanced. If you want a machine you can just ride and not worry about being broken down go with the yammy, and if you ever decide later you can put on the turbo or lightweight parts and know it will still be reliable!

This is what I find most often is apex riders dislike the rev (rider forward) and typically why they find the nytro so awkward.

Not bashing you AJ its just what I have found over the last couple of years.

Stock vs stock still no comparison IMO.

As usual ride what you like.:beer;

xp vs. apex

comeing off a rev you most likely will be more comfortable on a xp. i have two apexs and love them, that said they will not run with your sled stock or come even close to the xp. STOCK. they will go forever in powder but the minute you point it up you find the weakness. Weight! to get them down to respectable you will have 3500 into it but it will still be 100 lbs heavier than an xp. julio

Agreed, stick with your Rev, it's a far more playful machine and will outclimb the stock Ape.

Go the xp if you want to have it in the shop alot, my mates one was a total lemon. He got rid of it and went the apex. If you can ride right the weights not an issue climbing an apex and with a few light weight mods its a great machine.

No worries i'm not thinking your bashing. Different strokes for different folks. The apex just gets sold a little short, Its a very capable sled and most that dis it or say its not capable are the ones who have never spent some time on it. Ive rode m sleds nytro, apex and the dragon the rev chassis would be my last choice. But its all good ride what fits you best. I bought the apex to turbo and i keep finding it doesn't really need it. why it would be fun I'm liking it the way it is :beer;

apex is fine stock. plows through anything and is easy to work in the pow. if your good with clutching u can dial it in to use all that 4 stroke torque.
but if u want a out of the box climbing machine get a 2 stroke, just be sure to check your sled over all the time.

I was bouncing back and forth between my apex and an xp all weekend on the trail and in about 3 ft of fresh powder. Being used to the apex I absolutley hated the xp, but the 2 sleds are really uncomparable. they cater to two completly different riding styles. the apex is actually much easier to carve and climb untill it gets really tight and your commiting all of the time. If your looking for something that will ride like a rev it is not the apex. If You change the rear suspension, get a better seat, and change the exhaust then the apex is great, but it will never ride like an xp or rev.

personally, i'd never ride a non boosted apex. i rode a stock apex. after getting off my modded mtn max which your rev could probably smoke..it still felt like my mtn max would blow the windshield off an apex. sure the apex has a lot of torque..but wide open up a hill like most of us do it has very little top end power and is bouncing off the rev limiter the whole way up, i'd go with any 2 stroke sled over a non boosted apex

You probably shouldn't be commenting on an Apex that bounced off the rev limiter the entire time you rode it. It's not the sled's fault someone doesn't know how to tune a sled.

It is a very fun sled in the pow, just don't count on being the highmark king without some mods.

LMFAO.....rev limiter....LOL

You dumb azzz, you obviosly know nothing about an Apex! I ride a stock Apex with some mods and it's an easy machine to ride in powder, hate the sled in anything less then 8" of powder. You can feel every pound in the hard snow and it's NO fun to ride. If you ride good snow you'll enjoy it once you have it clutched,change the seat,exhaust,rear skid and track. Then it will be respectable but rider dependent on how it climbs. I ride with all the popular sleds and get around well except in deep,tight technical stuff, it wears you out fast trying to keep it pinned and throwing it around non stop. If you ride tight trees don't go Apex, go Nytro. I climb comparable to a stock 1M 900 Cat with a 151" track on most all snow conditions and I don't have the track changed or skid, just a bunch of other stuff. I would suggest AGAINST switching from your XRS to an Apex, if your comfortable on the XRS you won't like all the differences on an Apex, it will be dissappointing at the end of the day unless your riding open rolling hills in powder then it's a dream.

Thanks for the feedback.
Does anyone know of a good deal on a low mile or carry over apex?

Not at the moment. But a local shop has a S/C Apex that they have been sitting on for 2 years. They want $18 for it.. Even at the time I lauhged at them. :D

FWIW I love my stock Apex.. It takes me where I want to go, and I can get within the highmark of a stock M8. I'll purchase reliability over 4 feet higher anyday. BTW it's a heavy hateful lil bish on hardpack.. :eek:

We rode wiyh a stock new nitro yesterday in the deep. It could not even hang with the 600,s in the group. We started counting and 13 stucks. Horrible in stock form,I would not call it a mountian sled Maybe a trail runner. He rode the stocker since the Turbo Nitro was down and it Rocks!

Sounds like he has issues. I rode with a stock 700 and he couldn't even get close to me. Matter of fact he sat at the bottom cuz he was sick of getting stuck.. Calling them a trail sled is a stretch.. :beer;
