No Spark?.... Ideas?

I installed an 800 Open Mod engine in a long track ZX chassis and also changed out the MPEM box, coil, and DESS key. The sled was originally a 700 X model with DPM. The DPM was removed and the new box was installed, plug and play. The problem I’m now having is no spark at the plugs. I’ve ruled out the stator, and I’m thinking it could possibly be an open coil. Can the Ski-doo coils be interchanged with any MPEM box, or are they a match set? I’m thinking of trying the 700 coil set with this MPEM. The M box was supposed to be reprogrammed to run without the rev limiter by the race shop. Any ideas?

Hymark.... tried the switch of the plugs and no go. I changed the plug ins one by one as I removed them from the original M box. How often do these M boxes pack it in? Tough to diagnose without replacement parts on hand.

Do not assume your stator is good just because it passes all tests. I just chased a no spark problem around and it turned out my 2 used stators and the brand new one I purchased from Bombardier were all no good. All 3 passed all tests. I sent the 2 used ones to RM Stator and had them rebuilt. I now have spark with both rebuilt ones but not the brand new one. MPEM's are very durable and seldom fail.

What he said. ^^^^^

just bought a 01 800 mxz have same prob started 3 pulls like normal warmed up went to go for a rip made it about 200 yards and was like someone hit the kill switch dead no spark dont know were to start sled has only nine hundred miles one it, i heard from my dealer here in canada that the mpem is a common prob you figure stator is place to start

mpem is not that common....they are frickin expensive though..a lot of dealers like to just throw parts at problems at your expense.

Had an mpem go out a month ago, check your output at the stator, according to the manual and if it checks ok check the output out of the mpem to the coil, one or the other will probably be bad.

I followed the book as well. I now have 3 mpem's. I had all 3 stators check OK. I went to my dealer and tried my mpem.'s and all 3 were OK. As for ignition coil. How many cars do you know of that have ever had a coil fail. The stator is cheap to have rebuilt and RM Stator does them the same day they get them. Skidoo manual states if all parts check OK replace with known good ones. I had 3 dealers tell me to find another sled that runs and swap parts. Thats what they do.

Had my MPEM fail on my 03 a couple of years ago. Was going along just fine then it was like some one hit the kill switch. Replaced the stator still no go, replaced the MPEM and it fired right up.

I found the answer to my problem, and thanks for all your input….
The race motor was a 2003 and the MPEM box was an 01 or 02. The ignition coil plug off of the 03 stator would only fit into the air sensor circuit on the MP box and therefore no spark. Don’t ask me how I didn’t see this at first plug in. I took the stator out of my 700 engine which is an 01, and the ignition coil plug fits into the first slot towards the front on the MP box (front meaning closest to the front of the sled) which is the ignition input slot. The sled started 1st pull. The change in the plug shapes was made by Doo in 03. Am I glad I had a parts motor on hand and didn’t have to buy a stator. Cheap fix in the long run. Thanks again!
