no lights or mfd.

So i thought i had mine fixed. replaced the relay and ecu filled the gas & oil and took it for a ride. 50 miles and lights and mfd stays on. top off gas and oil and go on my weekend trip. about 60 miles into my trip same thing, lights and mfd cut off for a min or 2 then back on then off for good. I got it back home lights and mfd still off. they were usualy back on when i got home and that makes it hard to find but this time they were still off.
Checked voltage at relay and only had about 2.5 volts at input the two large red wires and only 2.5 volts at output the two large red w/white stripe.
So i unpluged the relay and had 12.75 volts on the input.
I knew then i had a short after the relay.
Started unpluging everything i could think of hand warmers, tail light, and nothing. Then i saw on the wiring diagram the 2 stroke oil tank low oil indicator was pluged into that circut also. Unpluged it and everything came back on.
It would only short when the oil was about a quart low.
I was verry happy until i saw my front motor mount crossmember was broke in half after 150 miles with new compfuision mounts and slp torque and push arms.

glad to see ya got it figured out. too bad on the crossmemeber, i have seen that happen too and i think a couple heavy duty ones are in the works for next year.

Thanks guido.
When i had the short the engine would not run good over 1/4 throtle.
So if your engine runs fine w/ no lites of mfd and voltage on relay is at 12+ volts you might have on open wire leading to hood.

well I bought a new ecu in december and it worked great. 150 miles later and today it fried again. power on white blue wire. going to wire in switch tommorow, wont buy another ecu. maybe electrical fire next. totaly pissed with this ecu problem.

you should check all the harness grounds and i would add a ground strap from the engine to the chassis. bad grounds will take out ecu's

I know this is an old thread... I'm going to wire in a button switch to the pull start so when I pull the cord the relay gets no ground and when it's in it's resting position, the relay will get ground and voila ! the lights and mdf turn on.
