Newer Axys Improvements

Hello everyone. I haven't spent much time in the Axys forum over the last few years mainly for the fact that I haven't been in the market for a newer sled. That being said, I'm starting to look at updating as I plan to sell my '05 900 after 9 years of faithful service and tons of fun. For the last 4 years I've split my miles between my 900 and my highly modded '13 Pro.

Anyway, I did a search and haven't really found exactly what I'm looking for so here I am. I'm wondering about the evolution of the Axys and things to watch for or avoid. I'm sure that there were things that made the 17s better than the 16s, and then the 18s better than the 17s. I read a couple posts about some physical updates with the Thermostat, head, EGT sensor and ECU for the 18 M.Y..

So what I'm asking is, are there any persistent problems that continue to plague the 800 still, or would an '18 model for instance be a reasonably reliable machine? I'm seeing deals on new '18 holdovers that are pretty hard to ignore.

Thanks. :beer;

My 2 cents. I have a '16, a '17 and an '18. Other than the fact that the '18 runs ALOT cooler due to the new head (almost scary cool - freaks my wife out all the time because it stays under 100 degrees ) I can't tell the difference between the two. Oh wait, yes I can. My '17 has an SLP stage 2 kit and it rips!! I LOVE that thing!! Best mod ever ... (only because I'm not a turbo guy - I have a feeling a turbo in this chassis must be out of sight!)

Seriously, though from a functional standpoint I can't tell any difference at all. They all perform well. I had the electrical connection issue with my '17 but that was nothing a bit of dialectric grease couldn't handle. All of them have just over 1,000 miles on them and none of them have been in the shop except for broken stuff (a-arms, etc.)

I'm looking at upgrading an older sled myself and I will get the one that has the lowest miles with the best goodies on it for the money. I'm not going to care about the year.

I do recall various improvements but don't wanna start listing them and miss a few, so im just here to tell you there are a lot of holdover 18 pro rmk 800 155s at dealers right now for ~$9000. I know what route id be going...

improvements

the reason i bought an '18 was because of all the improvements. The seals in the cranckcase was a big factor for me. The improved cooling was 2nd. I have been very happy with it, performs well , starts on 1st or 2nd pull, no issues. i have only 800 mountain miles on it. I keep making it better with aftermarket improvements and it just gets better.

I've had a stock 16 that was a electrical nightmare(tps, relays that affect=ev,oilpump, display) lost rod bearing......sled was in for warranty every 400 miles. Got a 18 and it has been awesome. Done a few mods, kmod a-arms, and pro ride gear down, and IMO it's better/funner(right now cheaper to buy) then a Axys850.

Since 2015 the Axys 800 has a very good reliability record. There are several 16's in our groups that are eclipsing 4000 miles with very little problems in any of them. Can't go wrong here.

Great deals on the 18's and as others mentioned, they do run cooler than 16/17's. if not in a rush to purchase, I would look into a 19 due to electrical upgrade, cooling upgrade, track clips on paddle bar/windows (seem to help track wear that the 18 experienced) and the narrower front end. Unless you plan on after market a arms, the shorter a arms on the 19's seem to stand up a lot better than the longer wider a arms on the 18's. As well my 19 handles just that much better than my 18, in my opinion.

'18 to '19 800 Pro-RMK & SKS 155 models, here's what I found:

Main electrical harness - same PNs

Motor mounts - same PNs

Tracks (this one is kind weird):
Pro-RMK 155/163 2.6" & 3" tracks - same PNs for the respective length
SKS 155 2.6" - different part numbers.

The 850 SKS 155 2.6" I saw, the track was fully clipped and the '19 800 SKS has the same track PN as the 850 SKS.
