Newbies heading to Albany Lodge.

Hello:

Just registered, but have been reading your forums for about a month. Thanks to all for such great information. We are heading up to the Albany area this next weekend, Jan16 and 17th. Being new to mountain snowmobiling I have a couple questions.

I have been ready the thread about parking in the Albany area. If we are staying at the lodge there, do they have seperate parking for their customers? Or will we be parking with everyone else?

Being a first timer, and mostly planning on staying on the trails this time, do we need to hire a guide or are the maps and trails easy to navigate?

Lastly, Do you guys trailer your sleds full of fuel or do you wait to fill them up when you get to the sledding area? I have heard that some sleds will flood bad if you trailer them with a full fuel tank. My two sleds do not have fuel shut offs?

Thanks for any input or advice you have

Yes, they have seperate parking.
Call ahead and they will let you know where to park.

If you are staying on the trails I wouldn't worry about a guide. The trails are EXTREMELy well marked. There is a trail map at each intersection with a nice big star (you are here) kind of thing.

Fuel em up in Laramie. You can get fuel at the lodge but it is a lot more expensive.

See ya the 17th.

What Ollie said.

I'd recommend you at least carry a compass and make sure everyone in the group has a map and a general idea of where you are each time you stop (in case someone gets separated).

Not sure how big your group is or what the experience level is, but I still need to remind people in our group that have been riding for years. Wait at the intersections!! Make sure everyone is there before continuing on.

Handheld GPS!! If you don't have one, there are some cheap ones out there that get the job done. I always like knowing my location, even on the trails.

Dont get lost.

If you know the area it is not bad at all. Like everyone will tell you the trails are marked great. If you think you will stick to the trails...... Ya right! As soon as you see fresh powder you will bolt right to it, then, oh we can go in the trees, oh, check out the untouched meadow, oh, look at the pretty bunny, oh check out the naked chick in the warming hut.. nix the last one it will never happen.
Point is I have been up there for several years and sometimes get turned around.
If it is blowing like a Colfax hooker be triple safe! I have seen people get lost on Libby Flats.
Moral of the story.... Know, ask, use tools, and wrap it up. Be safe.
Dont be afraid of asking to tag along with locals, just dont expect to keep up on 121's and carharts. Jokes, all but the serious stuff!

Wtf?
