I'm a very experienced/technical rider and have ridden just about everywhere. But we are headed to WC this weekend and I've never been. Can I get some direction on where to park and ride from? Suggestions on fun areas etc??

Park Creek lot on the east side of the pass. Get there early cause it's small. Long road ride up puts you right in the goods. HOWEVER, make sure you know the wilderness boundary's because they jog in and out of legal terrain and are patrolled regularly. One of my favorite spots in the state, you'll have a great time down there.

I think some of the best riding is right there at the top of the pass, just west of the ski area. Just park in the lot, you can't miss it, once you go past the ski area like you're going to Pagosa Springs. Follow the trail into the trees heading south and ride. There's all kinds of terrain back there and plenty of technical stuff too, you just got to poke around a little bit.

Pretty thin up on top still guys. We were up Sunday and got off the trail a couple time bumped stuff every time. I would almost wait for a couple more storms before I would make the trip this way. Or bring some spare a-arms!!!

Well the thing is I have to go down for an avy clinic regardless. So if I'm gonna make the trip I'm gonna ride while I'm down there

Could we get a snow update Monday? Thanks

I was up there today. The storm we got last Monday and Tuesday really helped to cover things up. I was off trail all day and didn't hit anything. The snow kind of sucked though. It got too warm this last weekend and made it almost like spring conditions. Lots of stuff is tracked out up there too must have been lots of people up there Saturday and Sunday.

I've only been riding up there the last 5 years, but it seems that there are more people up there the last 2-3 years.

I drove an hour to get there and regretted making the trip. I could have ridden closer to my house and had better conditions.

I'm glad that you guys left the good stuff to us Sat, Sun, and Mon. There is plenty of great stuff if you look for it. I was actually surprised how good the snow still was, we had a blast and didn't want to go back to work.

I didn't say it was all bad, yes there was some decent snow in the trees and north facing stuff. It definitely needs another storm, by Monday afternoon anything that got any sun on it was pretty crappy riding. When the giant meadow, and the meadow right next to the parking area are both completely packed out I know a lot of people have been riding up there. I know the whole riding area very well and have ridden my snowmobile there extensively, dirt biked up there in the summer and backcountry skied there. I hit up all my spots that normally aren't ridden that hard and they weren't that great. I guess maybe we have different opinions on what good snow conditions are.

Normally the great thing about WC is that you don't have "to look for it" it's just there. I've pulled into that parking lot in the past on a weekday when there was over a foot of fresh and have been the only snowmobiler in the lot. That's a day of good riding.

Any update on WC lately? Have cousins coming February 5th and was hoping to get down there. I know it's bad everywhere but thought I'd check.

The last snow that fell around here was on 1-13/1-14. Since then it has been sunny and relatively warm. There's a good base up there, and everything is pretty well covered up, it just needs another storm. If we don't get something soon it'll really start sucking around here. It was 60 degrees in town yesterday in Durango. The high up at WC ski area was 42 degrees, and they're expecting a high of 38 today, but it will probably get to be warmer than that.

The good news is that there is supposed to be a storm around here on Friday and Saturday.

I know its New Mexico and all but you guys ride Cumbres pass much? this weekend it ought to be good there. Looks similar to Wolf Creek as for as terrain and elevation.

Are you asking for Wolf Creek or Cumbres. If you're asking for Wolf Creek, it probably couldn't be looking any better. They just got a little over 3', and the storm this weekend is supposed to drop another 1-2'. I'll be riding on Friday. Not sure if I'll be going to Wolf Creek or somewhere else. It's all pretty good right now.
