New viper

my two fav. brands fornicated!!! I love this! When this hits the mountains in 2015 I may make my TNytro the spair.. (assuming it comes factory boosted)

On top of cat having a great chassis cat also has some other great things they will add to a mountain viper,

Powderclaw 2.6 is next best thing to camo X and prob better in some conditons.

The adjustable steering post works unreal, buddies M8 has it and its awsome.

I think the biggest loss for both companies is that when The 2015 VIper MTX Turbo comes out why would you ever replace it?

Oh and as far as everyone complaining about weight, you really need to spend a few days on a well set up boosted 4stroke, it can be a Apex/nytro or M1100, they all work well with the extra power, i have not had any time on a Pro so i cant comment, but you could not sponser me to ride a none tmotion Doo (also have not rode new tmotion)

I don't like the cat chassis. I don't know why people think its so great. Yamaha has always got crap from people about their sleds. All the way back to the pogo stick shocks on the 84 phazer and to the weight of the nytro. Weight is over rated. It's important don't get me wrong but when I hear this from a person that is 80 over weight, has a 25+ lb backpack and more weight strapped on their tunnel it doesn't make any sense to me. If weight is so important then go on a diet and limit what you put in you pack.

The 2013 nytro is a great sled. Yamaha should keep it but make some improvement.
1. 2.5" paddles on ascent track. Love my peak 2.5
2. zbrozracing front suspension 3" forward with works double spring shocks, or other compared suspensions like skinz.
3. CA Pros ski's
4. Bar risers/relocator like oftracing and other have out.

These improvements wouldn't cost yamaha much but to do it yourself is around 4K. I can buy a 2013 Nytro with a MPI turbo and factory warranty for 13900.00. Thats about a grand more than other sleds but they don't have dependable engines. The nytro would be the best factory sled if the improvements listed above came stock.

I don't usually feed into this crap, but all I've seen from the m1100 Turbos that I ride with is chaincase problems, blown belts, and broken jackshafts. And that's after only 1 year. My apex is 7 years old and doesn't break down. Hopefully the chassis is stronger than the one a/c uses.

i know there were 4 of them around here dont think any of them have them now all on poos now nothing but belt & chaincase probs.yammi clutches will fix the belt prob but how will the giant 2 chain case do.

iam not saying the chassi is bad but what a dumba$$ move to leave it looking just like the competition that will hurt them in sales.to top it off they make it out like its a huge thing they did its a chassi with 2 seasons on it that you can get a turbo from the competition from factory.i still dont get all the secrecy for a nytro motor in a ac chassi:cheer2:iam sorry as a yammi die hard iam disgusted iam sure it will pass but thats all i can say at this time.:face-icon-small-dis

Who says it will be the Nytro motor in the new Mtn sked?? I can think of 2 other engines that would fit in it.:face-icon-small-sho

Yamaha is all I own and all I ride. My dad got that in 65! they got it and win it I'n just a about every class of moto! Hang on you young chits and listen to chris it will be a new day!:face-icon-small-hap

No worries boys. The new sled has Yamaha clutches. That is the primary issue with the Cat. The chassis in hands down superior to the current Yamaha chassis. The chain issue is related to the auto tensioner failure which is easily cured with readily available parts. The sled is FAR better balanced than the 1100T because the Nytro motor is lighter and the exhaust comes out of the rear.

The rest of the chassis is bullet proof.

I wonder if they are going schedule any demo/shows here out west for them? I would like check'em out in more detail.:face-icon-small-win

I belive yamaha will only deliver engines to cat in 2-3 years, and then only parts for older sleds. This is just a marketing hipp to get the yamaha guys to start riding cats. wait and see this is the the end for yamaha.

Cat is after Yamaha's direct injection two stroke technology. I see Cat dumping their 4 strokes with this merger. Frankly, this is the first Yamaha I am interested in. 550iq

some more info on what going on with the partnership.

I wanted to post one more time a few things. I know I stated this in another thread but "I have driven all the Viper sleds. I was very optimistic... I didnt want to like it because of the Cat Qualities... I wanted to hate it... I am telling you this sled is SOOO much fun to drive."

As a die hard Yamaha fan I am sure you were like me.... a CAT ..WTF...lol, but over time and looking at it from a business side, I see what Yamaha was doing... causing some huge hype and making heads turn in the industry. This is a first in the industry, I am sure, having 2 snowmobile companies come together to build a very unique project. There is no one going out of business.... there is no one merging into the other... basically it is a trade agreement. This is actually pretty great if you really think about it. Yamaha needs to learn to bring snowmobiles to the consumer faster and basically meet the customers demands while Arctic Cat needs to learn from Yamaha about durability and fit & finish.... so they are learning and learning fast. The goods news is both snowmobile companies have a separate direction plan and only this one sled in common. After being in Minneapolis the last few days I have learned for us die hard Yamaha fans that there is going to be 1 new sled every year for the next 5 years from Yamaha with some new and outstanding technology with new chassis and motors... and yes they said motors So even though we are not all getting the sled we want let's not frown on the fact of what has happened. Let's encourage and look to the future of what is to come and look at this decision as a great thing for the snowmobile industry. So please get out to a demo and ride this sled.... it was extremely fun to drive and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Remember Sno-Jet?

I guess you'd have to be old like me? They were the first to get Yamaha engines on snow. Great sleds. The first Yamahas were OK but , just like the last several years, a little slow to adapt change. Cat is not, although change is probably the reason fit and finish suffer. This will be a great balance. You might not like to here this but, Yamaha's lack of change every year is how they could afford to stay in this industry. Any manufacturing company makes money through repetition. Better fit/finish and less mistakes. The best Cats were made in the final year of a model. Yet those were the slowest sales. Go figure. The Yamaha/ Cat partnership will clobber Polaris and Doo. Mark my words!

Ps. In the meanwhile enjoy the ride, these sleds will be a hoot.

tbh, i dont like the nytro chassis personally, so i can see the cat chassis may be better, then put a GOOD 4 stroke in them, the cats 1100-t sounded like crap and just was a joke imo....

so nytro engine in a half decent mountain chassis.... should be ok... now throw a turbo on that, and it should be a hoot...

of course the way they went about the exhaust system/s and all that with them is stupid, and hardly any room for intercoolers or much of anything... so i guess we will have to see what happens in the near future when it comes to turbo kits for them

I would like to at least ride it before I have an opinion.
I doubt you will ever see anothe mtn sled with Yamaha on the hood....only under the hood and probably only under the hood on any sleds within 2 years.

YAMAHA WILL NOT PUT THERE NAME ON IT IF IT ISN'T QUALITY!!! They will have to make the chassis to Yamaha specs fit and finish and we all know yamaha builds reliable products the new Viper will be no different...

Nytro engines are tough and reliable even with twice the stock horsepower. Their clutch is amazing. $60 belts that last 3 years or 2000 miles. Handling and weight is their downfall. The handling can be fixed pretty easy, weight is expensive. If Yamaha would build a 575lb wet mountain sled with a Skinz/Zbroz style front end and KMOD/Tsled style skid and 250HP engine they would sell a TON of them. If they weighed 525 wet and had 225hp stock they would sell more than they could make. It's very doable not sure why somebody at Yamaha can't make it happen.

Cat has had to up their standards substantially. The dealers that were at the show that were not familiar with Cat just saw what they wanted or didn't want to see, and that was a CAT chassis and were furious. Us being dual line and very familiar with Cat noticed alot of parts, including spindles, a-arms, seat, hood, bearings, panels, electrical connectors etc, that are far superior quality and fit and finish on a Pre-prodution Viper than a Cat Pro chassis. Do i wish Yamaha would have put a NEW engine in the chassis with more HP or a factory boosted sled, YES. But I am confident that is coming, and with BigFish's post, that is all true. New sleds every year for the next 5 years, New chassis, and motors and they emphasized new MOTORS. I can assume the Mountain sled gets the Nod for changes next year or we get a new one etc. MPI is already working on boost options for the Viper and according to them, and from our knowledge just looking at it, it will be easier to boost and a much simpler install than on the Nytros. MCX is getting to work on kits too. Unfortunately, just like the Nytro's we will have to dump money into them to make them perform, but it will be better and cheaper to do so now than with the Nytro or Apex of the past. We are working on some packages to make these Mtn. Worthy.
You basically need, a 153,162 or 174 track of your choice, Ice age or cat M rails, a tunnel extension from CR, and a 38" wide M front end. Add that to a viper, and yes, ski's, a riser, and BOOST!!! But we have a far superior chassis and setup for a Mtn sled for less money than we had to spend to make Nytro's work. a Zbroz front end is $1000, a M front end is $500, rails and tunnel caps are reasonable. We have a fairly good rear skid in the Cat that works better than the Nytro skid, YES i'm still gonna put a Timbersled in mine, but for the average guy with a low boost kit it will be awesome. Just my .2 cents. As a Dealer, was part of me dissapointed, yes, but when you sit back and think about it, this is a smart move, this chassis rocks, and is going to be awesome. Please TRY it, you will be impressed. - Cody

Let's face it, a lot of the frustration lies in the fact that guys don't want to have to fix and build a brand new sled to make it work decent and rightly so. You talk about all these mods well by the time the smoke clears that's going to be a 10g bill for the average guy. The first thing I read was "Hey just hang a turbo where that big a$$ muffler is. Well I think if you throw a tape measure on that exhaust system you'll find the pipe run will be longer and much less flow through than a rear mount Nytro or Apex so what did you gain.

I have a bunch of friends that have bought used low mile MCX Nytros in the last 2 seasons for dirt cheap, they've all come off 2 smokes cause they are sick of wrenching. These are guys that have been riding for a LOT of years. They used to blah blah blah about the weight of my sled now all I hear about is the power and electric start LOL.

Yamaha failed to realize that their biggest competitor is themselves, they clearly do not understand their own client base which is INSANE. The only reason they survive is due to the shear size of the company, they are killin it in grand pianos. If you are in the market for a new ride what are you going to do buy the Catahaha for $14k and throw $10K at it or spend $11K on a low mile tricked out Nytro in the used market and turn the key for 4 years, seems like a no brainer to me what I would do.

What M5 said. I bought an 09 Nytro with MCX 270hp kit, Skinz front and KMOD rear, Raptors all around, CE 2.5 162, trail tank and some other bits for $11,500. Best sled money ever spent. I could put 10k into cutting 75lbs and have really about as good a mountain sled as is possible for less than a Viper that has less power and weighs 100lbs more. Easy money math. Riding in deep or deeper snow you don't need the weight loss too.

i think this sled would be sick with a 154-163 extension, turbo, 38 inch ski stance and the same handlebars as the mountain cats. I think that would be sick!
