new to polairs. bought 2011 rmk pro. any need to do things

never owned a Polaris before just wondering if there are any need to do things or to check on this sled. has 1700 miles on it. any easy mods or any advice much appreciated thanks in advance.
 
Lots of sleds with more than 1700 miles and running fine. This topic brings up alot of opinions. Have your engine checked by a professional. Then you can determine if it needs a new top end.

Give your clutch rollers a good inspection and pull the magneto side exhaust valve (easy one) and give the piston skirt a good look, if your piston is not scuffed the other probably looks the same. "Gas and Go" great sled. Make sure the clutching is Polaris recommended clutching, it works very well.
 
The way I see this is that spending a few hundred on pistons, while it is still running at that mileage is like buying insurance. I did not do it and lost the gamble, blew the skirt through the bottom case, needless to say the cost to repair was tenfold at that point. Not to mention the hassle of getting the sled out of the back-country!

PS, fuel filer is recommended to be replaced

Motor mounts were upgraded for the 2012 model, 2011 mounts get sacked out quite quickly. I'm doing an RTK drop in piston kit and new mounts at 1200 miles. My sled has developed a bit of vibration, the RKT kit is supposed to smooth the engine out.

I have had three of them, with little or no problems.
But I do agree with Trenchmaster!:face-icon-small-hap
 
Burandt boards-stock ones bend
Mike Taylor foot vents-prevents snow from getting on clutches
Check motor mounts
Check compression tolerancesmines at 135psi at 1,200ft. Hold throttle wide open and pull sled over until gauge stops climbing and do it the same amount on times from the other side. Psi should be within 10% from one another
Hotdogger on pipe
Teather
Clean exhaust valves
Change chaincase oil
Watch oil use-could be low
Install skid plate
Vent side panels-even stock it's really hot inside the hood
Buy adjustable weights because they will be cheaper then buying two sets of Polaris weights and the Polaris weights have horrible tolerances. One could be 62g, one 63g and one 61g. And how can you have a balance clutch or a proper functioning one with that much difference.
Check track tension
Check chain tension
Check spark plug wires for wear on wire. They like to wear through on each other and can cause problems
Adjust shocks for your weight and possibly upgrade them or revalve them

This is just a list of some things you should do and some things that are highly recommended. I hope this helps!
 
I have the same sled. Maintain it regularly. Gas, oil, grease suspension, chain case oil & tension. Front bushings in the skis get rusted to the bolts, pull them out and grease them also.
Been riding mine stock for three years. No mods. no increase oil pump, no extra oil in tank.
Motor mounts are starting to get loose and will need changed soon.
Just gas and go. Still on original belt. By far the best sled I have ever owned.

RTK all the way

Definitely to a RTK drop in. I have a '12 and it has help the vibration and reliability of the engine. Kelsey is great to work with. I called about pistons and talked for 45 min. about other items as well.
 
I dont know if the 11 have the same week chassies as the 13, but fastrax got a very good and easy fix for it. It have a tendency to give in the footwell area when bumping into tree's

We did. And yes, doing it can be a pain in the tail.
I would also go with the drop in kit of your choice. Call Kelsey at RKT. He is a myth buster. :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap
Have both ice scratchers functional. Always watch your temp gauge. Oil will leak out of your Y-Pipe and exhaust pipe fitting. Seal it with Permatex Ultra Copper. I am no longer in favor of any aftermarket venting. But that's just me.:face-icon-small-con
2011 Stock running boards suck. I think there will be plenty of 2013/2014 stock boards out there for sale because there are people putting in aftermarket boards on their new sleds and they sometimes sell their stock boards:face-icon-small-coo
And I would recommend one or two Polaris wheel kits. About $40 per kit.:present:
 
If your engine is in good shape, put gas in the tank and go. If not, i would go for bmp or mtntk. Why? Well, lighter pistons with tighter clearance is not going to fix something in the long run. PS, i am not saying this because i want to talk trash or argue. Just my opinion :)
 
I see alot of people recommending alot of good things to you. Before I make a list of recommendation I would like to know what you came off, what your riding style is, and what you think you want the sled to do

this may be a bit farther than you want to go, but powdercoating the rear skid did wonders for weight savings in snow and ice on mine. I did a comparison of 2 identical 13's last year, and you would not believe the difference
