how much does it cost to do that wheel and tire set up, seen a dodge and super duty around town here with those set ups they look sick.

the rims with adapters for the axels were $3200, but all 6 rims are aluminum, you can get them for around $2400 with the 2 inner wheels being steel, and i just bought those tires 3 weeks ago, $3000 mounted and ballanced, but they should last for about 200k miles because they dont get wore out as bad on a lighter truck like this, compared for the trucks they were designed for.and it rides alot better with these wheels on them than with the old set up.stock wheels

3k for rubber:eek: I sure hope they last a long time, thats crazy i was cringing when i dropped $1200. Looks good though gotta love 22.5's

ya tell me about it i about shat myself with the quote. but they gave me 125 apiece for my old tires in trade so i saved 750 on the deal. but these tires should last me forever

There are basically three stages of tuners. The first ones are the ones you plug in, set a tune, and forget it (hypertech, bullydog, etc). The next ones have some plug and play to them, but you have to mount hardware (edge, banks, outlook). Then you have the balls out efi live. With efi live, you actually write the tunes and can plug your computer into your pickup and change things while you are driving.

I would suggest doing a cat back exhaust first (turbo back if your state doesn't do a yearly sniff test). Then do a tuner second. With you being new to the Dmax, I wouldn't suggest efi live yet. If you have a warenty still, stick with one of the simpler ones. All you have to do is spend 15 minutes erasing the tune before you take it into the dealer for work. If your warenty is up, you won't have to worry about pulling the hardware so get a banks or edge because you can make some small changes (like shift firmness and set a torque convertor slip limit). I would do the intake last because it costs as much as some of the tuners and doesn't help that much.

thanx for your input barnes:beer; maybe you can tell me whats the diff between a programmer,downloader,and a tuner they all look roughly the same ,in being able to do the same things....:confused:....:beer;

Bigneily,

They are bascially the same thing and do the same thing: modify the engine control module. The programmer/downloaders plug into you vehicle and write a new program to the ecm while storing the stock program to the downloader. Once done, you unplug the downloader and store it wherever you want. These offer little user input and don't let you fine tune much. Some let you change max mph and tire size, stuff like that. This is what I would remmomend if you still have warrenty on your truck. If something breaks and it needs to go to the dealer, it takes ten minutes to "unwrite" the program you put on and put the ecm back to stock.

The tuners have a processor that stays permantly on the vehicle. They also have some sort of input output device (screen, pda, etc). With these, you will have to install a EGT probe. They do the same thing as a downloader but offer some fine tunning (adjusting max egt, transmission slip, etc). These also show you most of your engine parameters on the display.

The tuners are probly your best bet in preventing engine damage because you can set them to defuel the engine at a certain egt or transmission slip. The reason I don't think there right for people with a warrenty is that if you do have to take it in, you have to take out the display, unhook the processor and then you still have an egt probe pluged into your exhaust manifold that leads to nothing. You can take the probe out and plug the manifold but that too looks suspicous.

Personally, I use the Bully Dog Tripple downloader. I bought it because it offered the same power as the tuners for alot less money. It is also transferable to ANY diesel pickup, not just an 06 Chevy. I installed boost and egt guages to keep track of the engine parameters on my own. I also have a 4" turbo back exhaust, afe stage 2 intake, egr blocker plate, and a boost stick from kennedy diesel.

barnes thanx man you laid it just how i needed it ,now it makes sense you just made up my mind ....my brother (meathead) has a 05 chev 3500 crew cab long box,same as mine but mine is gm should make no difference,anyhow he's going to trade his in for a new one soon, he has a tripple dog as well,magna-flow turbo back, afe intake , and i think even bigger injectors not quite sure though.anyway he wants to give me a good deal on all his stuff and just swap it over to my wagon,then we'll just install my stock gear back on his......:D:beer; thanx again.....

Not a problem, just make sure not to set the tripple dog on "crazy larry" until you do a little trasmission work :). Also if you do alot of towing heavy loads, I would recommend getting the boost stick from kennedy diesel. It fools your ecm into thinking your not pulling as much boost pressure as you actually are - therefore it adds more. When using it, i normally have 3-7 more psi then i have when not using it. It lowers egt's about 200 degrees on average too. On my LBZ it takes 30 seconds to plug in but on the LLY's it takes a little longer, maybe a minute or two.
