My little boy is exctied too. He wants to sit on it every chance he gets.

So that means I have had a summer project to get my sled how I wanted it. I decided that I can’t have a red sled as I have had orange for 8 years now and I just don’t like the color red anyway. Messed around in Photoshop a little to come up with an idea of what I wanted. See below.

So onto the transformation

First things first, I had to get rid of that tall windshield. So got out the tin snips and away I went. Put the trim piece back on and looks much better now.

Took off shocks and spindles and started painting. I know it’s not professional and all but it lasted well on other stuff I have done so we will see how this goes.

Next came the vents in the hood. Took them out and painted them orange.

I couldn’t find anybody willing to trade my red panels for orange ones but Mike at R&M lightning products wanted to trade his black ones for the red ones. So my color scheme has now changed. Got the orange vent kit from them as well as the black panels and now just waiting to put them on the sled when it gets back.

Still need to get brackets for the skis but this shows what it will look like when I get the orange ski on. Also shows what the orange windshield would look like if I painted it orange.

Decided that I want to have orange rails so built a little sled stand and off they came and on with some paint on those.

So time to paint the windshield.

Sled012Medium.jpg

So here it is so far. still got some things to do to get it all together but its coming.

Sled015Medium.jpg

So now I am just waiting to get my sled back from WRP http://www.wr-products.com/snow.php
with the wide board kit, the tunnel braces where the tunnels have been bending on these sleds, and a new seat and it should be ready for the snow. Thanks again Marc, can’t wait to see how it turns out.

I will update this thread when I get my sled back and panels put on. And then the skis put on as well.
Man this is killing me without any snow though.

Nice sled....nice work. It will be unique for sure!

Let us know how the springs and spindles hold up. I think you probably should have powder coated them, but maybe we all be surprised.

I used an automottive paint. Not sure of the brand right now as I am at work. Ya we will see how it lasts. If it doesnt last very long I have a cousin that can paint them for me but this is much cheaper right now and they are not that hard to take on and off to get done later if need be. The springs are the thing that I think will flake off first because it will have alot of flex in them. The spindles I am not too worried about but we will see how it goes.

I am right there with you Yamadoo!! all that I have ever had was Yamaha's or Doo's (not counting my 250 Motoski) I will be so very happy to get my new Pro when it comes:becky::becky: cant wait to tinker with it, also just found out my cousin's are giving me my Uncle's sled, it's and old Polaris I'd say early 70's one with the 2 headlights up front:becky: so there will alot of work for me this winter to get all my new toys fixed they way I like them!!

Ya this is my first Poo so I hope i like it. I think i will but its definately going to be a change. Its a maizing what a little paint will do to make it your own. I have never liked looking like everyone else on the hill so I had to make mine uniuqe. Good luck with your sleds. its always fun to have something to work on when we cant ride. Gets us through the crappy summer months.

Do you think the paint will last on your rails? I have wanted to get mine powder coated red but don't have the extra $$ If the spray paint stays on I may try that.

On an old Polaris wedge I had, I bead blasted the springs and painted them with Krylon rattle can paint, held up pretty well, at least for the one season I owned the sled. About 650 miles that year.

Sled looks good though!

I will post how well they keep the paint. We did my friends 08 Polaris rails red as well just a few days ago so i will update how both of them do as we ride this year. We usually get in 20 - 30 rides a year and last year we got in 40 rides so it should be a good test this year. I hope to get that many in again this year.

Here is the paint I used. We will see how it holds up. I did use a primer as well but that can has been thrown away.

Hello Yamadoo04

I like the look your going for sure! Looks great. You will find that you do have peeling/flaking problems with the painted aluminum parts. The best way to coat aluminum parts is powder coat. Aluminum is tricky stuff to bond too, your springs on the other hand will most likely hold up as long as there is enough flex agent in the paint you used, and as long as you prepped them properly, the reason they will hold up because they were already powder coated and paint bonds very well to powder coat. Anyways just from our experience. Keep up the good work it's looking awesome!

I thought powder coating was not recommended for aluminum something to do with heat?
The older poos tunnels were painted were they not?
Keep up the good work the only ones that will notice are the ones that are stuck as you pull up to help.

The only heat issue I'm aware of is with the new PRO Ride chassis. They are bonded together with glue that has a melting point close to the temp required in most powder coating processes. Otherwise I think it's okay to powder coat a tunnel.
