New sound regs???

Thread Rating
5.00 star(s)
Hey guys,
Anybody know any details about the new sound regs for 2010?? I have an SLP exhaust setup on my sled and want to know if I'll pass BEFORE I get the "test". It's a 600 HO with SLP Single and Can (era 2007). Anybody know about this combo or a way to test it? Thanks.

I remember seeing a thing about sound checks at a forum ride or something, but how many of you have ever been tested otherwise?

I've never seen anyone get tested or hassled about sound regs, but I do tend to ride less populated areas. Are the new regs supposed to be significantly more restrictive?

we got checked at last years 4M ride, my turbo came in at 89 so most anything typical will be fine. new reg is supposed to be 88 for sleds and 96 for OHV's but can't find any new updated info.

My little ol' mod passed. it's pretty quiet, especially when I get to around 6000rpm

The State Parks will have 28 "testers" on the snow next year. 96 DBs measured 47 1/2" high with sled running 4,000 rpm +/- 250. This info is on the State web.

Mile-Hi Snowmobile Club is having its annual test/tune ride on Nov 21 at Winter Park and will have a tech from Spirit Lake Polaris on hand as well as a State Parks officer who will test sleds for DBs. Your invited!

We meet at the Clements Rec Center, 1580 Yarrow Street, Lakewood on the first Weds of the month at 7:00. Dues are $40/yr which includes a CSA membership, mid-weeks rides, scheduled Club rides, avy classes, CPR first aid class, overnight ride-in/ride-out ride, etc.

We have a link on www.snowmobilecolorado.com OR www.coloraadosledcity.com which is the CSA web site.

96db, eh. That's pretty easy to work with unless you are some punk from Leadville with a straight piped yellow REV.

*yeah, we haven't forgotten you, buddy*

Why so different for sleds/ohvs? Is it just because of the deadening effect from the snow?

I don't think either of my MAIN sleds are anywhere near a problem, curious to see where my racer stands, if that thing would pass something is wrong with the regs!!!

Might have to go to the ride on the 21st just to see.

Hard to tell, seems like the numbers keep changing, I'm going to do some more looking and see if there's updated info on the website.

Here's a link to the law right from the CO legislaters http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/leg_dir/olls/sl2008a/sl_416.htm

SAE J2567 is basicly what they did at the ride last year. meter is placed 4 ft above ground level at a certain distance away. Sled is run up to 4000 RPM and the measurement is taken.

Guess I better start looking for that muffler

I got mine!

Looks like XC found the info that I've been given.

88db at 4K RPM 12 feet from exhaust. This takes place in Colorado July 2010 for all OHV's. At the last CSA meeting, I talked to Tom Metsa from Colorado State Parks. He said that rangers/Sheriff deputies/state parks workers will be in full force to enforce the sound ordinance. I can't wait to ride up on VP once this goes into effect.

I got a buddy who just wrote an iPhone app that checks your sound level and gives you data on current laws for your state. Sweet app for $1!

Ok, so you're suited up, fueled up ready to go - your new CO Parks friend directs you to pull off at his audible weigh station, he magically detects that you're sled emits 90db breaking the 88db allowance. Guilty! Clearly you're more guilty than the Dispensery owner selling "legal" dope to 18year olds with Chronic Pain and a Tokyo Joe's Addict card.

What is the end result? Ticket? Arrest? A night in the pokE? Or, just pack it up and go home to watch some powder vids? Try again, son. Do the db meters need to be certified?

MD.

Ticket with a max fine of $100 is what I read somewhere but can't find it right now.

The measurement techniques are different for the OHV's vs the Snowmobiles, they even have a different SAE Procedure referenced in the law. SAE J1287 for OHV's and SAE J2567 for Sleds.

Its a petty offense with the fine outlined below.

But they still need to be certified by the dept of agriculture. There is also a number of allowences depending on temp, wind, Etc that they HAVE to allow for.
