new sled?

Hey guys, I have been looking for a 2009 or 10 rmk 600 for my kid.

didnt find one that was the right shape for the cash but now my neighbour listed a 2010 800 dragon rmk
the background on this sled is :

1400 miles
electric start
all stock

blew a piston and just had the top end done under warranty (bought from a dealer 20 days ago so he had 30 day warranty)

so they rebuilt it with polaris oem parts and reflashed it.
I don't know much about the mapping/reflash stuff I have never owned a cfi sled.

The sled is mint and i can prob get it for $5000

There is engine warranty till Jan 26th!
the questions I have are

1. do I need to get a programmer or would the current setting from polaris work (mid range lean issue ive been reading)

2. Can I install a jaws/ mbrp can with no issues?

3. should I replace the oem pistons and install fix kit ?

I am sure this has all been discussed many times somewhere in the forums but I am new to this site

thanks

I would save your money and buy a different sled, anything other than a 08 to 10 800 Polaris. I got a great deal (seemed like it at the time) on my 2010 Assault from a dealer in 2011. Brand new with 2 years engine warranty for $9,000 (no taxes).

1200miles, and a year and a half of off warranty (3 motors warrantied) I wish I had bought a used M8 or new 600rmk (Yes I am a Polaris guy). The great deal wasn't worh the headache or the black cloud that now follows me around every time I go for a ride, just waiting to loose another piston.

Since I lost the warranty I have done some things to try and get some longevity out of the motor. PCV (SLP map), complete SLP exhaust, SLP mtx clutch weights and slp primary spring, SLP pink exhaust valves. I also add oil to every tank of fuel (always done that) and Lucas Oil octane booster (per SLPs instruction for this crappy motor). I have 120miles since the upgrades and pistons still look good, but it's sad that I check them after 120 miles!!

Save the money and the headache!! Buy newer or if you want to stick to that price range a 600 Polaris or 800cat.

Thanks for the advice 09rmk600!!

I finally found a nice 2009 rmk 600 in my price range, think i will be happier with that sled for the kid.

IQ 600's are great sleds! They get up on the snow nice and easy without trenching like a bigger sled, which is great for someone learning how to ride powder.

I have an 11 rmk iq 600 and they run strong, think you will like it~ the 600s are also pretty easy to sell~ good ones hard to find:face-icon-small-hap

I agree with 09rmk600. I was in the same situation last summer. I went with a 07 700 because I found a good deal, but 600/700 polaris or 800 cat is the ticket. Everyone I ride with has nothing but praise for their m8s.
