New sled mod - EYE SURGERY - Opnions???

Don't even think about the price. If they are offering it super cheap, why? Do research and check into their reputation. After all, you only have two eyes. If you go the cheap route and they screw it up, what are you going to do? If you travel out of country and something happens, ?????????

When I was researching doctors, I called a bunch of places and had them send me info on their practices. I have eye coverage where I work and they have certain places that you HAVE to go to inorder to be covered. I discussed a bunch of options with my eye doctor. He told me some horror stories of some of those "cheaper" places. The place that my insurance provider recommend also had a couple bad incidents with local people that my doctor knew about.

I weighed all my options and decided to go with a doctor that was 300 miles away and wasn't covered under my plan. It cost me more money, but I am happy.

I won't even think about going with a cheap place, I just figured $500 a eye was going rate here until I seen the other price, good idea actully about talking to eye doctor, i'm sure they would know good places to go. I'm going to research it a lot more, and yes price isn't even a factor you should consider.

Great feedback. Now I am even more interested. I have three appointments @ different places for free analysis next week. I will see which one I feel better about and then decide. Hope it works out to have it done.

Rode one year with glasses/contacts and that was enough. Had lasik done 5 years ago after glasses for 22 years. You can't put a price on comfort and level of enjoyment you add to your sledding experience. It's no different than when you got your first set of gear that kept you dry or that riser that gave you the perfect ride height. It just makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable.

There is not a single thing you could do that will give you more pleasure (please, this is PG rated) than getting your eyes done, and it is year round, not just sleding.

Got my eyes lasered over a year and half ago and that was the best money ever spent in my book. We didn't have flex pay at all here at my work yet and now they finally got it after I had the procedure!

Mine costed about $2500 for both eyes including meds and a years worth of monthly follow up visits. The first month after the procedure and every once in a while now I still catch myself reaching for my contact lens case.

Don't cheat yourself on the costs, it's your eye's we're talking about. Also, after talking to all the people and docs around here, the laser cut flap isn't worth the extra if they're charging for it. The blade cut flap actually grows together faster and lessens your chance of an impact on the eye or rubbing your eye and tearing the flap later.

The reason why the prices vary so much is it has to do w/ the type of equipment being used. The cheaper the price the more outdated older the laser is. Higher the price you are using the more of the latest greatest laser. I just got a price from my eye doc for $3600 for both eyes and it was Lasik.

My flex spending account was not used for braces as expected, so getting my near sightedness fixed just popped up the list a ways.

I really hate glasses for Sledding, Motorcycling and hunting. Other than that, they are just kind of a pain. I am nervous about getting my eyes lasered, but I know several forum members have experisnce, so let me know your opinions.

I realize that getting me eyes corrected, will almost ensure that I will need reading glasses, but who reads anyways?:o

Well you can still correct your vision without having neither an eyeglass nor contacts early last year I undergo Lasik surgery for my astigmatism and like the concern of other people im not comfortable in wearing contacts because my eyes are sensitive for infection so my friend recommend me for Lasik exam in my2020 have you heard that? The exam includes a complete evaluation of the internal and external health of the eyes. They create a detailed map of the eyes and perform all of the visual tests necessary to prepare for LASIK. And the nice thing with Lasik-1 is they use the latest, most advanced technology to thoroughly determine your eligibility for LASIK. I don’t know if you already heard a Dr. Stephen B. Wiles, he is one of the surgeons and I can say one of the best in the world. Anyway just try to have a schedule exam for a FREE VIP LASIK your first step in achieving improved vision. Hope that one help you. Good luck…

Not to hijack thread but does anyone thinks theres a "to young" age for it? I'm 18 and I hate wearing my contacts sledding, and always have to have contacts or glasses for driving or at school. My only concern would be a problem seeing things close up after, my vision is perfect close up and I wouldn't want to loose any of that. Opinions? I looked into it it's like $1,000 but I think it would be the best money i've ever spent if I don't have to fool around with contacts for glasses for a really long time.

Lasik wasn't an option when I had my eyes done 13 or so years ago. I was 23 so they offered RK. During the exam the doctors did say that they would not do the procedure on young adults for the fact the your eyes are still changing. Women especially. They preferred not to do it unless you were done having kids because this can also effect the eyesight. Being a girl sux some of the time.

Anyways, you should check to see what the eye doctor says about your age, they know best.

I will say that I did have another kid 4 years after the surgery and I have noticed that I cannot see like right after the surgery. Need to buck up the money and just have them go back in and fixed again.

To anybody that is looking into this, JUST DO IT. You won't regret it.

Forgot about this post. I had lasik done on my right (dominant) eye last Saturday. After going through 3 complete 2 hour exams at different places, I decided where to go based on service, confidence and experience.

All 3 places highly recommended Mono-vision. Do one eye for long distance, leave the other eye alone for reading. So far, my fixed eye is 20/15 with little to no issues.

Driving at night is a problem with the un corrected eye because it still sees headlights a blurs. The lasered eye is perfectly clean with no "rings". I had my 1 week check up yesterday and they said to wait a month to see if my brain could adjust to the mono-vision. It really is great to see far and read close, but for night driving, I have a pair of glasses with one lens removed.:)

Also, long distance sight is not as crystal clear and there is suposedly some loss of depth percetion. I will wait a few weeks before getting the other eye done.

BTW, the one sled ride I have been on was great. I could see and no glasses.

I know there is a little risk with surgery, If anyone in the northwest could recomend a good place to have this done i would appreciate it. dont mind travelling to Seattle, spokane, boise. wherever. Just want a reputable place that knows what there doing

thanks
