New sled mod - EYE SURGERY - Opnions???

well worth it

i HAD IMPLANTABLE CONTACTS PUT IN MY EYES ABOUT 9 YEARS AGO, MORE EXPENSIVE THAN LAZER BUT LESS PROBLEMS BEST MONEY I HAVE SPENT ON ANYTHING.

I had my eyes done and I love it. I am recently starting to have some problems with my stight, about 7 years later. I think most of my problems are from letting my eyes dry out and working really long days. I have worse vision when I am up at 5:00 and don't get to bed until 2:00. I have had some problems with glares at night, mostly from headlights. The glares are similar to when let your contacts dry out and are driving at night. If I use eye drops, they are not so bad. I now actually have glasses I wear at school and when I drive at night. I still have GREAT eye sight but the glasses help with eye strain when I get tired.

Do, it you won't regret it.

When it comes to a choice between toys or body, do the body first.
Especially the eyes. Take into account what was stated earlier, the eyes are the fastest healing part of the body.
A few clicks over $14,000 and I am not blind. Too many blows to the head is what an old friend told me some time back. From bad racing wrecks and eyes trying to pop out of my scull, combined with retina damage, did mine in. Laser surgery following open eye surgery was needed. The laser part was easiest of all
Do it and don't look back afterwards

Got mine done in 2001 and still see 20/20 or better. I absolutly recomend it! Had to wait until my eysight stabilized @32yo so I still wake up and realize how nice it is not to have glasses. Now I need hearing aids.....schmit!:beer;

i have a bad stigmatism can they still do it does anyone know

They are able to do a certain amount of astigmatism but they only way to be sure is to meet with the doc and see if you are a canidate.

Best money I ever spent, and I had to do it twice. The first time they cut a bad flap and weren't able to do the surgery, still had to heal up from the cut. Waited a year and tried again. I went from 20/70 to 20/15 the next day.

Had Lasik done a few months ago and I had mild astigmatisms in both eyes and had no problems, 20/15 right now. Best advice is to do alot of research on your own and go to a couple of reputable vision centers. That way you will have an idea of what to expect and what questions to ask. And for those who have dry eyes and night vision problems, drink plenty of water, it helped me out alot.

Did mine 10+ years ago. Highly recommended! Sledding,Biking,Water skiing, Hockey, the list goes on... Definitely one area you shouldn't "cheap out"...

I had Lasik 7 years ago and I think the money spent was well worth it.
I do need reading glasses now, but I can live with that. I will probably go back in for a tune-up (lifetime warranty). I too have a slight astigmatism.

Giving my wife Lasik for Christmas with the FSA money....hoping they will give me a two for one deal!

Thinksnow, you had PRK just like me. Same as Lasik, but all on top, no flap cutting.

Lasik runs anywhere from $1,200 and eye up to $2,500 an eye around Denver. My wife is getting it done in a few weeks and paying $1,800 an eye. Mine was $1,500 an eye, which is pretty much the standard price. Some insurances give discounts and if you use flexible spending accounts (FSA), the money comes out pre-tax so it's like another discount and with my plan you can do the surgery in Jan and take all year to pay for it out of your paycheck with no interest.

I had it done 3 years ago- wow- best money Ive ever spent...what a difference...I wasnt that blind to begin with- but its like going from Granny's 19" color TV in the kitchen to a new 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV!!!!

I see you are in Kent. I strongly recommend going to Lomas Eye Center and have the wavefront laser...They are just behind Valley hospital off 180th & 167. The evaluation is free and only took an hour or so.

Your health insurance may pick-up a portion of it. The wife's insurance picked up $600 an eye for me. My own did not- so its worth having them check.

I had mine done in July of 1996 at the Gimbel Eye Centre in Saskatoon. Best money I EVER spent. Over 11 years later, I have only noticed very minimal loss of the 20/20 vision I gained from the surgery.

Go for it!

Wow that's a huge difference from here, I looked into Lasik here a bit and the starting rate is $500 per eye, not sure how much it would end up costing but that's a big difference. After all the good comments i'm going to have to check into it.

Consult a doctor to know for sure but I had a astigmatism as well. My father had lasik and hist astigmatism was much worse than mine but he was referred to an astigmatism specialist. They use some special machine that did like spotted dot surgery.

Also, do NOT go to the places that come in and do eyes. Most of the value places, ($500 an eye) are not worth it. My doctor spend two 60 hour weeks with an engineer setting up his machine, getting it level and all the setting correct (240 man hours). There is NO way in hell a mobile place can get set up properly. The big places might be scary as well. My doc did I think 8 surgeries in a day. Some of the larger places do like 50 a day. They move people like cattle. Don't go to a large place.

$1000 an eye is about what you should be paying. I would talk to a few different places that do it. Go with the place that made you feel the most comfortable, don't go with cheapest or most expensive unless you got a really good feeling from them.

The cost on my eyes was around $2500 out the door. It would still have been worth it at $20,000. I hated glasses and all the hassle with sledding. I spent a ton of money on creams, sprays, etc. to stop the fogging and nothing worked like advertised. Sledding is much more enjoyable now.

Don't even think about the price. If they are offering it super cheap, why? Do research and check into their reputation. After all, you only have two eyes. If you go the cheap route and they screw it up, what are you going to do? If you travel out of country and something happens, ?????????

When I was researching doctors, I called a bunch of places and had them send me info on their practices. I have eye coverage where I work and they have certain places that you HAVE to go to inorder to be covered. I discussed a bunch of options with my eye doctor. He told me some horror stories of some of those "cheaper" places. The place that my insurance provider recommend also had a couple bad incidents with local people that my doctor knew about.

I weighed all my options and decided to go with a doctor that was 300 miles away and wasn't covered under my plan. It cost me more money, but I am happy.
