New sled mod - EYE SURGERY - Opnions???

My flex spending account was not used for braces as expected, so getting my near sightedness fixed just popped up the list a ways.

I really hate glasses for Sledding, Motorcycling and hunting. Other than that, they are just kind of a pain. I am nervous about getting my eyes lasered, but I know several forum members have experisnce, so let me know your opinions.

I realize that getting me eyes corrected, will almost ensure that I will need reading glasses, but who reads anyways?:o

I would do it. I obviously haven't had it done b/c I'm not old enough to have bad sight yet. lmao. But my brother is a neuro opthamologist at Bascom Palmer eye institute in Miami Fl and has done surgeries for people who sled dirtbike etc... Bascom Palmer is the #1 eye institute in the nation and top 3 in the world. He feels that his patients have been more than happy with the outcome!!!

Best sleding mod I ever did was lasik.I can read most stuff without glasses but I have some cheepo 1.25 reading glasses for those other times.

well you wont be alone with your lasik surgery this year... i also need to get it done! thank goodness for tax free FSAs...

Your eyes are one of the fastest healing parts on the human body , I think you will be very suprized at how minimal your level of discomfort is. Its basicly a in and out thing now . best of luck

I'm 40 and got mine done at 35. Only regret was not doing it sooner. DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!!! I was BLIND and am still 20/20 w/ no problems. It's great for camping, too. Just wake up and no worring about dirty hands to put contacts in.

Another vote to do it! I wish it had been around 30 years ago -- I had it done 10 years ago at age 38. Woke up the next morning and could see the alarm clock and looked out to see a beautiful bright sunny day. Went to a baseball game, sat in the upper deck and could see great!

Since I'm so dang old, I have reading glasses, but don't use them as much as I should...

A buddy of mine has that I ride with has had it done. I'm real comfortable in contacts and would rather put that eye surgery money into a turbo. :D

Best thing I ever did!!!! I did the new wavefront technology a couple years ago. I couldn't imagine sledding (just for one) with glasses, contacts, etc. The air is very dry here, so the first year I used a lot of eye drops and some days still do. I will be 40 next spring, still don't need reading glasses. I'm sure I will someday. I think I did it on a Thursday, took Friday and the weekend off (good thing) and went back to work on a computer all day Monday. Don't hesitate, if your a candidate get it done. (And I was a big scardy cat, but just takes a few mins). It is awesome to see the alarm clock in the morning!

Had it done 5 yrs ago and not a problem. No reading glasses yet, and best of all no contacts or glasses, plus now you could wear some decent sunglasses without contacts. win win for sure.

I had it done 6 years ago. I was the first patient the Dr. did, so that was a bit weird. Actually, the nurses and laser machine did almost all the work. Highly recommended. I was 27 at the time, and very happy with results.

the only discomfort I had through the whole process was the Dr. putting the stabilizing ring on my eyes, and a bit of 'itching' for a couple days after. the itching went away as soon as I used the drops they gave me, so it wasn't a big deal. Highly recommended.

PM me if you have any questions.

I had PRK done, it's like Lasik, but with a lot more painful recovery. I couldn't do Lasik. It was about 4 days of feeling like a major sunburn on my eyes, but it was worth it. I had 20/900 or so vision (-6.5 diopters) and astimagtism. I am now 20/20 and 20/25. It was worth every penny.

If you are ok in contacts, it's not as big a deal, but still worth it to see the alarm clock in the morning. You also don't have to drive home one-eyed if you loose a lens.

I wore glasses full time since 3rd grade (I was 36 when I did the PRK), I can handle reading glasses when I need them. I also plan to wear hearing aids when my ears get bad enough. I'm can't understand why a lot of men won't wear them.

You wont regret it. Very easy, fast, and basically pain-free for me. Most of the time spent was in the follow-up appointments. My vision was corrected to a little better than 20/20 and hasn't moved in the 5 yrs since i had it done. Love it......

Not to hijack thread but does anyone thinks theres a "to young" age for it? I'm 18 and I hate wearing my contacts sledding, and always have to have contacts or glasses for driving or at school. My only concern would be a problem seeing things close up after, my vision is perfect close up and I wouldn't want to loose any of that. Opinions? I looked into it it's like $1,000 but I think it would be the best money i've ever spent if I don't have to fool around with contacts for glasses for a really long time.

Another vote for Lasik... Had mine done 7 years ago at 31. I too was pretty nervous but for no reason. It was simple and painless. Its so nice to go out in the rain and not have to hold your head down to keep the drops off tha glasses. I was a little wierded out when I could smell my own flesh burning when the laser was working, but it was very faint and I was pretty doped on the valium they gave me to relax...

I had it done one year ago today. Best thing I ever did. The place I went to offers free touchups for two years. My left eye is perfect. The right one is just a little off. I can still see great with it, just not perfect. I will probably wait until spring and have it touched up.

I can't remember which procedure I had, but it was all on the surface of the eye. They just burned the surface of the eye and peeled away the burned part. It took a little longer to heal, but no worries about the flap moving, infections, etc.. It felt like I had sand in my eye for the first couple days, but then everything was fine.

If you can have the procedure done, DO IT! You won't regret it!

The funny thing about all this was that I had it done to avoid glasses and the fogging that goes with it. Now I have to wear sunglasses or safety glasses for work and they fog.LOL

got my eyes done a couple of months ago........best money i ever spent, period!!!! only wish i did it several years ago

Got mine done at the begining of the year and now have 20/15 vision and absolutely love it. I also wish I would have done it sooner. Spend the money - its one of the best "mods" you can do to yourself!
