New pro crank grenades

A guy in our group had just over 700 miles on his new pro and last week KABOOOOOOOOM. Crank goes. I was thinking about getting one but after my history with the polaris 800 crank and now the same problem showing up in their new sled I am thinking twice. Any other blown cranks out there?

Can you provide any more information on this?

Did the crank break internally, PTO end snap off? Did it drop a piston skirt? Was the sled using oil at a normal rate (for these motors)? Bearing failure?

I am sure any info you can provide may interest the rest of the Pro owners.

Sorry to hear either way:( Hopefully it will turn out to be an isolated incident.

I know of one!

I was at the dealer yesterday and out of the shop came a pro (missing most of the engine) on a forklift, i said ohhh nooo and the dealer guy said the owner lost the crank. sled has 1000 miles on it already. Its the only one they have had come back yet he said. Sorry i dont have alot of details.

I've got my "Ear to the ground" pretty good regarding the PRO...This is the first I've heard of any crank issues.

Anything can happen... could have been from many different causes.

This is most likely an isolated incident.... The crankshaft on the PRO-800's is the same as the Previous years from 2008 - 2010 (Part number 2203717)... I've seen those sleds with over 6000 miles on the same crank in high boost turbo use... no issues... not a problematic crankshaft.

I'd really like to see some photos of the broken parts though.

So.....out of the hundreds and hundreds of Pro's out there, and the hundreds/thousands of miles that have been put on them, and almost every person absolutely loves everything about it....... Why are there some people that just wait for one thing to go wrong so that they can associate that to every sled? Do some people not realize that any mechanical item in existence can/will break at some point and time. Rarely it's perfect forever, unfortunately reality tells us something can go wrong. Not every sled is perfect and sometimes chit happens.

And yet no backup information or response from the post originator..... this guy sounds like a really good source for what happened on oprahs last episode, not anything worthwhile for snowmobile knowledge! :violin:
