new member...conditions in dillon/frisco area?

hey everybody,

new member here. i was hoping to get some tips and advice on where to ride! me and a few buddies are heading out to CO at the end of next week and will be staying in dillon. we'll have 3 days out there, and the plan for me is 2 days of skiing, and i want to spend the 3rd day on a sled. i wont have my own, so renting will be the way to go. can anyone vouch for this company? seems to be the best option:

i've done plenty of trail riding in new england with a little bit of off-trail, but not much. i'm hoping the conditions allow for some off-trail, but since i havent been able to ride at all this winter here in the east, any riding will suffice! i'd prefer to avoid a tour unless its for more experienced riders

if my buddies come with me, neither of them have much experience on a sled, if any, so that may play a factor as well

thanks!

There is no snowmobiling in Summit County except the for the trail system that Good Times grooms (another rental company). They will most likey take you to ute pass or vail pass. Expect spring time condtions. Highs are now in the 40's lowes between 0-20 at night.

Correction. St, Johns Bowl, Middle Fork and Red Deer are all still open for snowmobiling. These are all off Tiger Road or accessible from Montazuma. These were under the travel management plan that did not take effect for this area. Vail Pass has rentals you can take off trail although its NOT the best idea if you don't have beacons, probes and shovels and some avy practice. The company also does not recommend you take any snowmobile off trail. Good Times is all on trail, and there is a place outta Silverthorne that has all on trail rides in Heeney. Sorry i can't remember off hand what the name of the company that rents the sleds for vail pass is.

thanks for the tips. i ended up booking a tour with the company i mentioned in my original post. we go on friday, and they'll trailer us up to vail pass i believe, and i figure with 2 inexperienced riders, its best not to put them over their head. i'll just be happy to be on a sled

Its a cool area with a few open areas that will be fun for sure. Shrine bowl may have already slide out with the conditions we've had. Lots of avy danger recently so stay safe and have fun.

we rode near chicago ridge on friday. it was great! probably 6" of fresh snow, and we rode all around the area. it was a blast! definitely want to head back out there again down the road
