New Dragon owner question?

Taking her out for maiden voyage today. 09 800 dragon 163". First what is the dial on the dash? I am assuming its controlling the air vent? what should it be set at? turining it left all the way open? What sshold tach be at? I also noticed it has a temp gauge, what is normal temp and what is hot? Thanks guys, just made the switch from doo after 3rd motor replacement on three sleds. good luck to me.

The dial on the dash is for the headlight adjustment, up and down.
Normal operating temp in deep snow will be about 120. It can get hot in a hurry on packed snow.
I think about 180 - 185 it starts to retard the timing to try and prevent damage to the motor.

Welcome to Polaris! The dial on your dash is simply a headlight adjuster. It does however sit above the airbox and can allow snow to enter. Skinz Protective Gear and SLP make a cover for it. Some people just adjust the light and just cover it with duct tape.

Once broke in the motors seem to run best somewhere in the range of 82-8300 rpm.

I'm told peak HP is made somewhere around 165 degree water temp. Most run more in the range of 130 ish degrees. I think most people are comfortable with this.

A Power Commander V is a good investment on these sleds. Better fuel mapping and increased reliability. Big performance gain as well.

Thanks guys, Does this sled have any breathing problems in the deep. and does it need any venting? My XP was basically one big mesh hood to keep things from melting down. HA HA.

Intake wise it isn't too bad. Heat wise most people add at least some venting for the clutches.

Goofy I would listen to what thefullmonte has to say... I have been through 4 motors on my 09 800 Dragon.. I am finally listening and adding the Power Commander V... Polaris mapping sucks! I fully believe that is the reason for my trouble. Good Luck with yours! When they run they are in my opinion the best ride!
