I'm not sure if it was here that I saw this but I'm certain I read a report within the last year about some new automotive technology that seems like it may become reality if hyper inflation takes effect and vehicles become insanely expensive.
In the report it stated how an idea was tossed around between automotive finance companies. The idea was to make vehicle ownership available similar to cell phones. You don't actually buy the vehicle but you pay for what you use in advance, mileage plans, etc. Much like a lease with the exception that if your late on a single payment they have the ability to disable the vehicle either until it is paid or they track it by GPS and they simply take it without notice. The idea went as far as to introduce pay as you go, so if you run out of running time or milage they could simply call you over the vehicle Onstar and advise you to pull over if your in motion and they would then disable the vehicle unless you bought more time or milage. I couldn't find the article again but has anyone heard something similar?
