Need your thoughts

Okay guys i put my dirtbike for sale on craigslist. Well i had quite a few people hit but only one sent a cashiers check. I was asking $2000 for the bike. I recieved a cashiers check today for $4200. i am to keep $2100 and send the rest to the shipping company. I think this check is fake, but i am waitng to see what the bank says. So that leaves $2100 left. I dont think it is going to cost $2100 to ship the bike to North Carolina. My bike is not going to leave until the check clears through the bank. What do you guys think shipping a dirtbike from washington to north carolina cost? What do you guys think? I think its fake but i will find out.

ditto!

I heard of some of these where the check would appear to clear, then the bank would find out it was fake after they initially cleared the check.

thats what me and some people were talking about. they say its clear you get the money, and then they say it was fake and then you have to pay all the money back. so what i think i am going to do is leave the check at the bank for a couple days and tell them make sure it clears. if it dont call me.

Scam for sure, Maybe a bank guy will chime in, but the way checks work, is your bank makes the draw on their bank, when your bank gets the go ahead that is a legit bank on the other end they will clear the funds to you. Then the other guys bank will use its reserves to pay your bank then it will try to draw the funds from the other guys account when it shows an non existing account the other bank will reverse the process. Your left with the money being pulled back out of your account and by then the person has usually shipped the item. Since the proces can take up to 8 business days. Had this sorta thing happen a few years back to a co-worker and his car.

Are you sure the so called buyer is actually in NC?? and not Nigeria? ;)

or heck, maybe the guy is just really nice :)

Scam as usual whenever they tell you to give the remaining balance to the shipping company.

Its a scam, craigslist warns people of this, I was selling an axle for a jeep rubicon and keep getting weird emails about what name to put on a cashiers check, so I began to inquire as to what kind of jeep this was for etc, and never heard back from these people again.

haha well guys last night i emailed her asking for her home address and tis oringhe emailed me and said it is 2245 west main street
Bakersville, North Carolina, 28705. well map it. it does not exist.

SCAM written all over it.

NEVER, EVER fall for that BS scam. If you're going to hold the check on something like that you need to hold it for a month or two. There have been documented cases where it takes that long for someone to realize the check is fake. You will be required to pay the money back.
